Updated diesel spec?

Featured Replies

There have been a few criptic comments about an improved diesel engine spec in various threads, presumably by those in the know.

For those like me who are still in the dark at the moment:

1) Has the engine actually been improved.

2) Will mine, delivered today have the upgraded engine if it has changed. (110bhp 2wd)

3) What are the changes? More economical, lower co2?

Hi Ken,

this engine change was highlighted last year by JonA. The 110 TDI engine is not affected as the updated version was fitted from the start of production back in WK45/09.

The 140 started production in May 09 with the CBDB before switching to the second generation CFHC motor also in WK45/09. There was speculation that the 170 would also be updated at this time but this has only just happened recently; WK22/10 I believe.

My understanding of the Skoda system is that they tend to introduce the next model year and relevant updates in production week 22, with mid year updates following in week 45, the exception tends to be a facelift or new model (this is often tied in with one of the annual motor shows).

With the 140 the only visual change I've noticed is a differant engine cover and the repositioning of the oil filler from right to left (as viewed from the divers seat). Physically there's a new ECU and JonA was under the impression that the injector system was different.

CO2

140 Gen 1 = 159, Gen 2 = 157

170 Gen 1 = 159, Gen 2 = 155

There's some more info in the Yeti Tech Guide.

TP

So what does that mean in plain english for the thickos amongst us :giggle:

Second Generation (Gen 2) engine = slight improvement in economy and CO2 with changes to the engine fuel system and electronics (such as an updated engine control unit or ECU for short).

That's how I understand it from JonA's post and other information I've come across.

Thanks TP, as always you're a valuable source of useful & interesting information
