A favour if I may.

Could one of you take a picture of your engine bay, in front of the engine? I'd like to know whether there is space in there for the intercooler from the Golf PD150

Ta.

Jon

Jon just taken these quick pictures.

Not much space in front of the engine, but in front of the radiator there is loads.

Saw a mk3 golf tdi with a HUGE intercooler in front of the radiator, in what is a similar size space. This was an Allard turbosport conversion I believe.

Other pic... hope this helps.

Hmmm, thinks, need to get dimensions of the Golf intercooler

Looks pretty tight in there to me.... What kind of benefits would an intercooler bring to the TDI out of curiousity? - I'm exuding lots of curiosity this evening! :D

Oh, well, it may give you an extra 10% more power

:D

I've read that the standard intercooler on the TDi is between 65% - 70% efficient. Whatever that means.

Obviously not as good as 90% efficient!

I have been thinking about a larger intercooler and have been looking at Allard Turbosport who seem pretty knowledgeable about ICs.

My old Peugeot was breathed upon by them as well.

Theres always the option of a dual IC setup (using the stock one and an uprated one) and also the possibility of a water cooled IC.

I think someone has the dual Audi TT setup on this forum on a vRS.

10% more power eh?

Sounds like a good setup - You're car is newer than mine. How did you get around the warranty issue? Or did you just think, sod it.

Jason,

My local Skoda dealers response, when I asked about the chip and warranty situation, was that "fitting the chip would not void the warranty of the car, but could become an issue on the engine warranty if there was a problem"

I got the impression he had been asked the question several times!

So basically I would be liable for repairs if Skoda rejected a warranty claim on the engine. Which is fair enough.

I'm sure an intercooler conversion woudl be a different kettle of fish though, as its not exactly a hidden mod!

BTW anyone know if a dual IC setup would suffer from pressure loss, more than a large single IC?

Sounds like you were lucky. My dealer said that the entire warranty, including the engine's, would be voided, just by fitting lowering springs... Thats most annoying I can say! :(
