New Vag Engine ?

Featured Replies

Have seen for the first time ever, twice in the last 24 hours, badges on the back of an Audi A4 and on a VW Polo - FSi (I think) - is this a new VAG engine - I've never heard of it before ?

FSi is simply a more fuel efficient petrolengine. In the Polo it's a 1.4 the A4 has a 2.0. In them both it uses less fuel. I think from what I read it uses a clever system that delivers the fuel at a high pressure.

It's a direct injection system - better economy, more performance. Compare with Mitsubishi's GDI.

Audi used the technology to win at Le Mans (less fuel stops) and they have now created a new range of road-car engines with it.

Also, but you all knew that, the turbocharged version of the 2.0 FSI will replace the 1.8T...

How many valves does the turbocharged 2.0 FSI have? I read recently that the fact that the 1.8T has 20 valves actually hinders rather than improves performance, ie the breathing would be more efficient if it had 16 valves, although 20 valves is better for the non-turbo 1.8 engine. I don't know if the same would apply if it were an 8 valve engine.

I think its a 16V engine. I had heard that the next generation of Octavia will be getting this motor , but im not sure if we will get the turbo , maybe only the NA versions , so will that mean the next RS will be a 150BHP NA FSI engined car?

16 valves, definitely. And a 6-speed 'box...

The n/a does 40 mpg and has a 0-62 time of 9.1s. Here, the base model (A3 Attraction, won't bore you with the spec) is slightly up on the RS's price.

I'm sure the next RS will get the 180hp 2.0T FSI which is due in the A3 this autumn.

That is, if there will be a next RS. If there will be one, my guess is that it won't appear before 2006.
