Corrosion on vRS alloys

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has experienced bubbling under the paint on their alloys?

Anyone had them replaced under the anti-perforation warranty?

Three of the four alloys on my wifes vRS are bubbling around the valve area. The car is a 55-plate (so coming up for 5 years old) so obviously out of the normal warranty period but I wondered if the anti-perforation warranty (10 years?) would cover this? Or is that only bodywork?

Car has been owned by us since new and has a full main dealer history.

Any advice/experiences would be welcomed

Alloys aren't covered under the anti-perforation warranty, as they're not part of the bodywork.

Andy2407 did have some success over this issue, but it was a long and drawn out battle. You could PM him for more info, or he might respond here if he sees it.

Steve

I did manage to get mine replaced - but as Steve says it was only after a very long drawn out battle with Skoda Technical and the Skoda UK Warranty Dept - I had several months of emails and phone calls and visits to the dealer and discussions about my wheel cleaning regimes etc. (Bearing in mind I clean the back of my alloys with an old toothbrush you can perhaps imagine my reaction to their suggestion that I must have used an acidic wheel cleaner!!)

In the end I did get a result but only down to a lot of persistence, refusal to accept what I was told, and with some great help and support from the Service Manager at Simpson's Skoda in Colne. And all of this was before the 3 year warranty period ran out.

At 5 years I think you chances are somewhere between zero and none. Good luck if you want to try though - I can try to dig out the email correspondence to show you what sort of things were said.

mine are shocking came in very poor condition from last owner everything else was spot on but them so i have booked a week of at the end of august and im going to use that time to refurb my alloys DIY style never done it before but thought what the hell

had same issue on a 56 plate vrs furb. its not even 4 years old yet!!!

just bit the bullet and refurbed the wheels to be fair...

Thanks for the replies guys.

They're not bad enough to warrant spending a couple of hundred pounds on getting them refurbed (especially since there are zero kerb marks) but as I am also a 'clean them with a toothbrush' kind of guy and since I've just had the wheels on my car refurbed it is bad enough to annoy me now when I clean them.

I'll mention it when it next goes in for a service and if the service manager gives an encouraging response I may push it but I'm not holding my breath!

Thanks again guys.

Strange how they wont replace under warrenty ?

I know a few people who have honda CTR's (the old version) and when there cars were in warrenty honda replaced the wheels no probs if they were bubbling....

hehe just jking around mate - I have a vRS to ya know and I <3 it :)

But yeh Skoda be tight on that one :(

I used to have a Lexus IS 200 <polished alloys> and they replaced all five when the lacquer started to come off, picked my car up from my house ,left me with a courtesy car and swapped over when finished fully valeted and tyres dressed, was well impressed, mind you my next service did cost me 540 pounds, but it is a six cylinder and it was the 40000 one

Yep, Skoda garage in Chelmsford, Essex changed all 4 of my wheels, even though only two were corroding.

Was your car still under warranty (i.e the three year new car warranty, not the paint one)?
