Why is my clock and trip resetting?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been covered but I cant find anything.

Had my 2006 Octavia II VRS for a while now but recently sometimes when I go to unlock it by pressing the unlock button on the fob it doesn't do the normal 'chirp' then straight afterwards the car resets both the clock and the trip counter back to zero ! Then all the warning lights stay on the dash for a short while after starting. eh?

A mate told me the battery in the fob needed replacing so I did that but the problem is still happening. The other day all the dash went blank for a minute or so before allowing me to start the car.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Cheers!

Had a similar thing on my VW Golf which turned out to need a new battery (car not fob) so I would get that checked.

Just check that BOTH battery connections are tight. If they are, take them off and clean with a wire brush so they're nice and shiny and then refit.

If when the fault occurs, you have the steering wheel light on, it is almost certainlt a terminal 30 (battery) supply fault. You'll be surprised how many battery terminals work loose as they are on a tapered post.
