EGR? - Just say NO kids!

Featured Replies

In preparation for the next stage of project FMIC, I took the opportunity to fit my EGR delete pipe today along with a shiny new SAMCO boost pipe in bright green B), and thought I'd show you what 140k miles of EGR build up looks like.

I'm tempted to do this mod on the Roomster sooner rather than later.

What is that **** dude? Diesel soot?

Thats a lot of soot (type stuff) :o

Ohh that's sooty !!!

I'm wanting to do the egr delete but I don't want the EML on at all !

Holy smoke! Looks like it's been in a bloody chimney! Well I suppose it has, in a way :giggle:

How have you managed to keep that on yours for 140k anyway? Not been tempted to take it off/bypass it before, or have you missed all those threads? ;)

Lol. Just never got around to it before. I bought the pipe in about February! :giggle:

Can someone point me in the direction of said "delete pipe" please???

Apologies for hijacking the thread..

it carbon from where the exhaust gas meets the oil mist from the crank case !

Others are available but to give you an idea. Some also leave it in place but adjust the metering with VCDS (VAG-COM). So a few options...

Thanks guys..

I think that EGR looked pretty good for one with 140k. The pictures below show what the one looked like on our Beetle TDi - the car had covered 54k when this was done. I stripped it out and cleaned it in the vain attempt that it would improve the strange noise it was making - to no avail, I think the diapraghm is knackered in the top, this is probably a 10p part, and the cheapest I can get a new EGR from my mate who works at VW is £177! I have presently blocked up the vacuum pipe to the diapraghm and refitted the pipe. And will live with the EML for now!

Is what i'm expecting to find on Sunday.. My EGR's leaking oil and I'm quite a placid driver 90% of the time.. not a good combo :(

Sorry to sound like a noob guys but is the EGR the thing with the gasket in it which was narrower in the BLT engine causing the infamous stutter? I sometimes get a bit of hesitation when I put my foot down at around 1800RPM - it really is the only thing I dislike about my car.

the gasket isnt actually in the egr,its in the flange in the metal pipe that connects from the exhaust manifold that carrys the gases to the egr valve...just disconnect your egr....its only a hindrance anyway.
