Alternative "fuel"

Featured Replies

Does anyone or has anyone considered using veg oil and additives to fuel their diesel? I have a 2.5 V6 Superb and I'm thinking about researching this.

I tried a couple of litres of filtered oil in a Vectra 2.2 once along with a full tank of diesel and it didn't seemed to suffer, although for that amount I don't imagine it would.

plenty of info around this subject can be accessed via the handy and effective search function right up ^

iirc, VAG recommends you don't use it, others have and have not had issues, but then it's a gamble only you can decide to take or not.

I have experimented with this alternative fuel several times and discovered a lot of conflicting information on the internet.

so my discoveries were - Using waste veg oil or biodiesel from an independant garage@92p litre on my 2004 superb 1.9 tdi - Car runs perfectly apart from hard starting and a slight hiccup on turning over. Tried changing glow plugs and fuel filter and also using fuel additive to boost the cetane level but still hard starting. My conclusion was to stop using the fuel because of the hard starting as i use the car as a taxi and might have put pressure on my starter motor.I am happy that i tried the alternative fuel as i could not find a straight answer anywhere and most people advised not to use.By hard starting i mean taking a lot longer to turn over.Must also be noted that my superb has now covered 250k so there were no warranty issues to be considered. Was a bit dissapointed as this could have been an alternative to high fuel tax and paying big oil companies more money. Another interesting fact is the garage told me that the older the car the better for this type of fuel. my experiment was covering approx 4000 miles with no apprent damage/changes to the car - Hope this helps. some good links tdiclub.com / frybrid.com :)
