Temp gauge intermittent

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Since I have owned my VRS my temp gauge most of the time stays on cold and will suddenly rise up to show normal operating temp for a while then drop back to cold.

Im guessing I prob have a dodgy connection on the temp sensor/sender. Where is it located so I can have a butchers at it?

Many Thanks

John

It will be a defective temperature sender (very common fault across the VAG range).

Not sure where it is exactly on a VRS but it will be just below the head and above the gearbox, with coolant hoses going to it.

5 min job to change it when the engine is STONE COLD. Don't forget to buy a new O ring as well.

mines been dicky for a while, thanks for links!

and ordered ;)

You might regret ordering those ones Lee... I ordered the temp sensor, fitting clip and o-ring from there for mine earlier this year when my temp sensor and thermostat broke and within 1 day of me fitting them the dial started going into the red... took it to the local garage and they said the coolant temp sensor wasn't quite right as it wasn't sitting properly in the pipe, they had to pull it out and replace it with a £23 genuine VAG one to cure the problem

if it works it works, if not no loss ill just send it back for a refund. one on mine is dicky anyhow so its no loss

No worries, just keep a receipt or something just in case (I wish I did, wasted something like £7 :( )

Their thermostat seems to have been fine since I fitted it though
