DSG gearbox - going to cost a fortune in repairs?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just before I shell out a load of the bank's expensive money on a DSG VRS... seen on the warranty thread a major hesitation about non-warrantied DSG boxes. Is that because they break lots, or just because if it did break, it's going to be arms and legs and other vital parts of anatomy to get it fixed?

Cheers muchly!

In affect what it means, as per any automatic transmission they do cost a lot to fix if they break. Failure rates are no worse than any other auto box, its just you read more about the DSG than a conventional auto. The usual cause of DSG issues is the mechatronic unit, and these are replaced for free during the warranty period. Also at the end of your standard 3 year warranty you have the option to extend the cover on an annual basis.

Cool, so no worse than anyone else's auto for reliability? Sounds OK, and I do see why you'd get the warranty :)
