Conti Sport Contacts

Featured Replies

Just a bit of info.............

I have just had some new front boots fitted, Continental Sport Contact 205/50 R17 W (93). I was told by the previous owner who had the car from new that these were the original fit. He had Pirelli P6's on when i bought it but he said the Contis were better and would advise going back to them. It was looking like I would have to settle for the Contact 3 but from black circles they are still available. Now I have a matching full set .

They cost £113.49 each including fitting. You choose the fitting centre from a list which happened to be the local Peugeot main dealer. No problems with the fitting apart from just catching them about to jack it up on the sill! They were suitably told the correct place, on my new audi tt jacking pads!

here's the website http://www.blackcircles.com/order/tyres/sort

I ordered them on Sunday so not a bad turn around either.

You could have got some much better tyres for that money, but I understand what you did with making up a full set so fair enough. Plus the Conti SC's are asymmetric, so you can move the wheels about freely, which is handy.

The Continental SportContact wasn't the only OE tyre for the vRS though. Others had Dunlop SP Sport 3000A tyres. Again asymmetric, and in the same size (205/50-17).

I normally have different tyres front and rear as I like to try different ones out.

Tyres I've had/have on the vRS are:

Avon ZV3 (classic asymmetric, nothing mind blowing just a good tyre)

Avon ZV5 (superb asymmetric, my favourite!)

Avon ZZ3 (good directional tyre, but wore quickly)

Kumho Ecsta KU31 (brilliant directional tyre, getting hard to find)

Continental SportContact (pretty old now, there is even a new SportContact 5)

Dunlop SP Sport 3000A (again old, no longer available in 205/50-17 for some reason)

The Kumhos are an excellent tyre for the money, but the Avon ZV5's are my favourite tyre to date.

I have a similar issue to you, in that I have one unused Conti, and I'd like to make it a pair. But I got quoted something silly like £145 for a SportContact yesterday. So might just buy a new pair that I want, and try and flog the SC. Tyre fun. I need to focus on finding some 205/55-16 winter tyres at the moment anyway, so I shouldn't be thinking about this stuff!

If you want to flog the tyre let me know mate, my spare is rather low :S .

When these ones wear out i will re-assess but i just wanted a full set and they have worked pretty well. Nothing in it between these and the pirellis apart from they look a bit better. For looks alone you cant beat toyos and there fantastic for about 4000 miles!
