Gendan is probably your best bet to get the genuine VCDS interface.

.....finally bought a VAG COM USB DIAGNOSTIC CABLE 409.1 OBD2 II LEAD VAG-COM from ebay for 15 quid ,dont know how good it is but ill propably find out soon .

...has anyone else used this particular cheap one and can give us some feedback

..cheers

Does the 2010 Fabia use CANBUS?

If it does then it will be £15 down the drain, if it doesn't then good luck ........ you may well need it as the eBay cables can be very hit and miss.

VAG-COM 311/409 are no longer available, they have been replaced with VCDS-lite which still works with 3rd party hardware. Fabia/Roomster MY 2010 do not require CAN for diagnostics but even for those VCDS-lite is not the optimal choice either, no matter if registered or not. MY 2011 does require CAN capable hardware/software though, VCDS Release 10.6 is ready and tested on these MY 2011 models.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the 3rd party hardware, especially not as a newbee. If you really want to change and retrofit things either go with the real deal yourself or find somebody who has the proper experience and tools. ;)

My link

......this is where i got mine.........

..basically to start off i want to code my columbus to show arrows in maxidot (radio already shows on maxidot)

-does this mean that i wont be able to use this cable??? :'(

Don't think will work with VCDS-lite since the compatibility with the RNS510/Columbus was added in later versions but feel free to give it a try. Current versions will work fine though.
