Remove the ash tray. I think that the trim surrounding the gear lever has two screws in the area under the ash tray, the other end clips in.

Lift the trim and gaiter upwards so that you can see the gear lever itself. You should then be able to see a metal clip on the underside of the gear knob itself. Release the clip by opening the pinched in end out and the knob should pull upwards and off.
