Now thats a turbo! :D (or is it?) :o

Now that is big! Slight problem with fitting in the engine bay though. If you do manage it then Jason will be very jealous.

If you did fit that turbo, I bet you would get massive turbo lag.

I'm sure i've seen a bigger on fitted to a (two-stroke) diesal and that one had 2 or 3 superchargers as well.

The car is now at Turner Race Developments. I had a good talk with Dan this morning to discuss options for repair etc.

Can you spell HYBRID Turbo? :giggle:

Edited by Jonny5ive

Bad luck and well done in the same sentence! :D

Which route are you going for? B)

Discussed a number of possibilities with Dan, replace with OEM versus PD150 versus Hybrid etc. etc.

I expressed my concerns about the hybrid route given the mileage of the car (140k) and was assured this would not be a problem. Dan is going to include a check of the cams as these are prone to wear.

Again due to the mileage of the car I decided to aim for a solid figure of 200-220 rather than max things out :giggle: , So I paid my deposit and work will start on the following :

  • Stage 1 Garrett hybrid Turbo
  • Sachs Clutch retaining DMF for useability
  • Plumbing in of already purchased FMIC that is sat in my garage B)
  • bespoke boost and FMIC pipework
  • New custom re-map to suit

i can feel your pain mate my kkk blew at 36k blew compressor wheel out through engine having it totally re built and going hybrid too :D

Did you check for turbo bits of metal in your cylinder head and inlets?

Not personally, but it is being done

I think your proposed plan is a good idea and I hope you get some good mapping to suit. I always was a little dubious with your non-boost increasing mapping, although you did use the car nicely still. :D

Not sure what the stage 1 garretts are like, but I reckon you should easily be around 210bhp with that setup. I was at 220bhp with the Allard VT2 which is kind of a stage 2 VNT17, but seemingly not as good as the stage 2 TD turbo which I have seen at 240+

Not sure what you mean? :wonder:

Not sure what you mean? :wonder:

Just my deep seated opinion that a good remap increases fuel and boost to create the best bang, not just fuel. :) Nothing more than that and nothing directed straight at your mapper  The car still went well! B)

Still don't get ya, but no offence taken anywhere old chap

The car did go well on what was a switchable generic re-map for 300 notes from the "old" AmD in Bicester. It had been mentioned that it held it's torque particularly well. B)

just not as well as a mapped 1.8T :p my brother stumbles across goochie's video every once in a while and has to wipe a tear from the corner of his eye

good shout on getting rid of the OEM pipes though, it's so annoying when they pop off

I was sooooo trying to find that vid yesterday. That was the same day i'd had it mapped. I remember sitting at the end of the runway bricking it on the phone to AmD as the wrong lights were flashing on the one-click module. :o

They kept me on hold for ages and simply came back with "turn the ignition off, remove key, remove one-click and start again":rofl:

I hadn't learnt to drive it properly with the map on and besides the ECU was still learning :giggle:

It's been road tested today. picking it up tomorrow morning. can't wait!!!

:happy::happy:

Is it me, or was that damn fast work!? :D

I've just realised from your sig that good ol' Dan Turner is doing the work! Remind him about the nightmare of working on my car and getting that MAP sensor working right. He will remember I think :giggle::giggle: Tell him all is well now after some more serious work.

Indeed, a little over a week for a new turbo, clutch, FMIC fiting and mapping!!

Roll on tomorrow.

"good 'ol dan" did mention your mongrel :giggle:

Hopefully not accompanied by swear words as the car put up a real fight too!

If he asks, you can tell him I've ditched the box of tricks he made up and now have mapping to suit the 4 bar sensor as it plugs in normally. He did get me back on the road for some time though.

Sweet bud!!!

Mines is still off the road :(

Helix clutch and smf will be ordered for mine on friday
