RIP - Rest In Pieces my Turbo :-(

Featured Replies

SO, finished off fitting my EGR delete pipe and new boost pipe this evening. Also blanked off both vacuum hoses (ASZ engine).

Went out for a test drive and 300yds from the house, pop, bang, burning oil smell, and a steady drizzle of oil from under the car. :-(

Limped back to the house and things didn't sound too great.

Any thoughts?

Boost hoses all appear to be intact, but haven't had an opportunity to jack the car up as I'm losing the light now.

You ain't the only one!!

drizzle of oil doesn't sound good, although it its coming from the side mount area, its prob just a hose. If it is coming from the back of the engine, it is not good.

Maybe snap up that PD150 turbo in classified section? ;)

fingers crossed for ya! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

it's coming from the back of the engine

Let me see if I can get a quick snap under the bonnet.

I would say its FUBAR'd, but your car has been remapped for quite some time, so perhaps it was just a matter of time before the KKK gave up?

Aye, it's been mapped for +/- 110k now. To the best of my knowledge it'll be a garrett though. 2003/03.

Here's the pics: I removed the pipe after the airbox to get some pics behind the block. The oil spray don't look good

Hmm, sad to say I think it has shat itself unfortunately. :(

But 110,000 miles is good effort to be honest.

would fitting the EGR delete and a new boost pipe have contributed? it was fine the other day :giggle:

I suspect coincidental, but doing that might have free'd up some restriction in the boost system so it might have pushed a little bit more than usual, and then BANG. :'(

Hope you get it sorted.

Depends if there was any swarfe left in the new boost pipe and EGR delete that you didn't notice. Did you give them a good check over?

sure did. The boost pipe is silicon and the EGR delete pipe was second hand.

hi, you should have only blanked off the top vacuum pipe as the second controls the anti shudder valve on the ASZ engine. dont know whether that would be something to do with it,

jordan

coincidental....

Keep us posted Jonny. Hope everything is alright mate

Completely coincidence. Maybe you were a bit eager to give it beans?? Cold oil?

I feel for you mate! must have been like a bullet going through your chest

never having been shot in the chest, I couldn't say for sure!!

I'm more than pleased with the 140k miles (running a remap for 110k) that I've had from the exsisting turbo.

It's a risk you take with modifying cars, you win some you lose some.

I`d say that was pretty good going tbh, mine went at 123k and i wasnt too upset, the cost yeah, but thats not too bad innings for a turbo.

Matt

I think you have done very well with that mileage, mine went at 52k, and I was not best pleased. Get yourself that PD150 tubby, I noticed that it was a lot more eager to rev, and pulls harder than before. Still running the first remap, as I don't see the need in having this one maxxed out! (probably wouldn't give much more power anyway?).

Simon.

The car is with Dave Turner at the moment having a post mortem.

As soon as I know what's up I'll be looking at options.

Doctor Turner rang at just before 5pm to say that my turbo has gone to the great big engine bay in the sky.

"Unfortunately the turbo has gone, it let go in a big way blowing the compressor out the side" :o

The car is being taken to TRD on Monday for further diagnosis and to look at replacement/rebuild options ;)

I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime click and sing along!!
