Help in replacing door cable and a strange electrical problem

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just took ownership of a 98 Octavia TDI and am loving it.

I knew of these problems when I bought the car and managed to get a good deal as I thought I could fix them myself.

The door cable from the interior handle has snapped. I've had the trim off and it looks like it shouldn't be too hard. Is there any tips or advice on replacing this?

Now for the electrics....The central locking doesn't work from the drivers side, turning the key and nothing? When I unlock from the passenger side, more often than not, the windows go down. Not all of them, sometimes both front ones, other times just the passenger side ones. Very confusing...

Anyone help out a new owner?

Cheers

Door cables are easy enough to do....just a take your time, as it takes a bit of wiggling to the get the cable into the lock.

locking - possibly a failed microswitch (drivers), or a sticky one (passenger). Or water ingress into the loom / connector block on the window motor in the drivers door.
