Interest in Felicia parts

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently asked a question about a knocking noise on my Felicia and was pointed towards the rear bottom gearbox mount. I have just had the car up in the air at a mates garage and we have looked it over and come to the conclusion that the noise is not coming from the mount, but from the diff.

Now, i have two choices.

1) try and find a cheap replacement 1.3 felicia gearbox and swap the old one for the new.

2) Brake the car and get back as much as i can on it.

I have a couple questions first though. How much interest is there for felicia parts? Would it be worth just selling the car as spare or repaires, if so how much should i ask)? Or is there some kind of diff repair kit i can get to replace the seals and bearings?

Cheers

Dave

Diff? Really? Usually if they have something noisy like that happen, it's the pin coming out, and then the cases go about 5 seconds later...

Thats interesting. We had the car up on some ramps and had a good look at the rear gearbox mount (as was suggested in my other thread) and though the bushes were a little worn they were ok and there were no cracks etc. We tried to replicate the noice while the car was on the ramps but it would seem that rolling resistance is needed for the noice to happen.

What pin are you refering to?

The pin that the planet gears run on inside the diff. But to be honest it won't knock, it'll just come out, clout the case and then BANG! All over.

Wrong gearbox, but the right idea - part 9.

I really can't see that there's something in the box itself that would make that sort of a noise.

as darren says the diff won't knock it will just go clunk once and all the oil will fall out

have you tried pulling up on the gearstick when the noise happens as the rear gearstick remote mounting will give a pretty good impression of a clonk when the engine rocks a bit..

sit in the car with out engine running and pull the stick up and down and see if it makes a noise then?

gearbox's are pretty tough (altho darren has broken one B) )

More than one Jim!

heavy handed you is then :wall:

Thanks guys.

Its not just a knocking noise, though there is a knocking noise soemtimes. The main noise is when the car is warm and there is only minimal throttle. It is more like a rotational grinding noise then a knock really, but its hard to explain on a forum.

Record it and stick it on youtube.

Jim - yeah, used to be. Killed a gearbox per event in the early days!

Thanks guys.

i know exactly what you mean with the rotational grinding noise, my felicia developed the same about a week ago. Yet to figure out what it is. To make matters worse, I get a knocking noise when initially using the throttle/brake as well since yesterday.

I plan on having a little looksee tomorrow, see if I can figure out what it is unless somebody beats me to it here :) not the first time somebody has had the same problem at the same time either
