Decent replacement seats with deep bolsters

Featured Replies

Although I havn't picked up my Octavia vRS yet, I've already started planning in my head what I can do with it...

So aside from the usual suspension, and exhaust etc I've been wondering what I can do about the seats. As standard the bolsters aren't very deep, and they're definately not as deep as my Fabia's. They're comfortable but don't hold you in your seat as much as I'd like and I'd ideally like to keep the interior looking relatively "normal" so Sparco bucket seats are no good.

In my old Escort GTi, I absolutely loved the RS2000 Recaro's I fitted in them, they were soo comfortable and held you in place while giving it a good ragging

Sooo.....

In my quest to find something similar I've had a nosey around the net at the obvious choices like MK4 Golf's and such, and even some of the newer VAG group cars. None of them look much, if at all, deeper than my Fabia's and they're nowhere near as deep as the Recaro's I had.

Any ideas?

Leather seats from a Mk4 R32?

You can also fit the seats from the Mk5 Golf GTI and other models into the Mk4 platform cars but it's a bit of a pig to do. They are more like proper bucket seats.

oooo they do look quite tasty :D

I'll have to find an R32 to sit in and have a feeler. Gonna be a bitch to find a set though :(

The Cupra seats look over the top and would be ridiculous in an Octavia, would just look weird!

Also, where can you go for getting runners changed for fitting seats from other cars? ;)

mmmm, unsure mate,

tbh the LCR seats look good but are cloth iirc so personaly are no good.

It will prob be a pain to get the seats sorted so Id just stick with a like for like.

the R32 seats are like rocking horse doo doo. I was lucky.... very lucky....

lol,

If you're looking @ saving a bit of $, have a lookout for Seat Recaro full/half leather stuff, eg

SeatToledo_HalfLeather_00_Front.jpg

About £200 on ebay; leather/suede; 3 position electric memory; airbags (won't work on vRS tho); fit standard mk.4 rail;

Although the bolster size is only a little bigger than vRS seats, they're much firmer & keep your backside where is suppose to be :D

Very simple to fit - 12v power supply to each seat !

I have to agree with Billy. The R32 seats are the best like for like swap & they are extremely comfy, just pricey to get hold of.

I was looking on the Recaro website earlier, and I think they sell the same seats as the RS2000 as new, so might just end up doing that and it will still be cheaper than 2nd hand R32 ones.....

Only thing I'm not so sure about is the runners and whether I have to purchase them separately or get them custom made etc.

those seats look pretty damn nice! If I was to get them I think I would have to swap out the centers for white. I like it to much, one of the reasons why I bought the car.

Edited out.

No standard seats will ever be as good as the RS2000 seats! I used to have an RS2000 4x4 and the seats were my favourite part of the car!!!

Why not consider replacing the standard seats with some reclining buckets on custom subframes???

That's what I'm looking at because of the lack of decent direct replacements.

Was considering buying RS2000 seats, getting them retrimmed and then somehow fitted into the Octavia.....but theres no off the shelf replacement frames :(

Thats all on my to do list mate. when the funds are there they will be made to look the same as std lol

Yes there is, Recaro make subframes to fit most cars, they however are not cheap (i paid £150 for 1 subframe!)

I wasn't asked which Recaro i was fitting to the subframe

FWIW this is what a genuine Recaro subframe looks like for the MKIV Golf and MKI Octavia:

I was in a Lotus Exige on Sunday and the bulster on those seats was crazy! I was so wedged in I couldnt move! It was also pretty niffty having a 4 point harness.

I can't move at all in the mk5 Golf GTI seats I have in mine now. Great hugging from around the thighs, and also for my rather flaky lower back. Since fitting them I have found longer car journies much more comfortable with less need for stops to stretch my back. :) Also really good on track.
