How do you get it without huoooooooooooooooowge bass boxes and massive amps. I have a Infinity basslink which is very good but I'm looking at building a small enclosure around the wheel arch and I don't want to loose any boot space.

I'll probably sell the Basslink on ebay as I'll need the space this takes up to squeeze in a pushchair/pram next year

Tight punchy bass is usually a characteristic of a small enclose, the large the enclose the lower the sub can go as the more air it can move.

You can't get a decent bass sound from a shoe box.

thats is true but i woudlnt call that tight punchy bass... the best way to get tight punch bass is to use a sealed box... then either a 10" for even more punch or a 12" for a bit more drop...now a 10" sealed box usally needs to be about 0.5 of a cubic foot and a 12" sub needs about 0.75 - 1 cubic foot interla volume...the most convienent place is as you said your wheel arch look here there is a step by step guide..
