Featured Replies

Hello,

thanks for reading this and for any help u can provide.

I'm looking for the recharge point for the air con on my 2003 vrs. If anybody knows where this is can you please let me know. :dull:

Pretty obvious this...at the front of thr slam panel to the left.

Ok so where is that then? inside the car? :p

open the bonnet and it's right there. Any one capable of recharging it will know it immediately. There is a data panel next to it showing refrigerant type and quantity

Might be better if you take to a pro by the sounds of things.

You can't really miss it and it's all under the bonnet nothing in the car itself other than controls for AC

found it but it's fully charged.

Any other quick fixes for the air not being chilled? :wonder:

compressor clutch

How do you know its fully charged? Did you evacuate all the gas an weigh it ,and compare with the gas weight on the slam panel??

Not quite, i'v got a wee gauge that plugs in and tells u! :p

Err all that will do is tell you the pressure of the system and not how much gas is there. The gas is usually taken out and a machine weighs it.

a pressure gauge will tell you nothing. if you had 1kg of the gas in a sealed container and 20 grams of it in another they would both have the same pressure in....

first off get the gas removed and refilled to the correct amount (750-800 grams)

if it still not cold check that the clutch is still fitted to the compressor and activating.

if it is turning and still not cold then next try is the reciever dryer unit (£16 from euro car parts/£90 from skoda)

Go to kwick fit, they have the best deal at the moment, if it doesn't run colder after they'll not charge you a penny

Let Kwik Fit recharge your Air Con while-u-wait. We will replace and recharge lubricant and refrigerant levels in line with your manufacturer’s recommendation. If we cannot improve the coolest vent temperature from your car by more than 10% when measured in degrees Celsius - then you pay nothing at all.*

* Please note if the ambient temperature around the car is less than 9 degrees Celsius it may affect the results of the AirCon recharge test results. In these circumstances, it is at the managers discretion whether to offer a refund with results less than 10%.

cant say fairer than that really, any idea what they charge if they do get it to work?

Not too sure think it's £50??

Hi there, mine is just as described above, 1.8t with poor AC. How easy is the dryer to replace please? My local air con guy won't touch the car cause it's been to kwick-fit so looks like i'll be doing it myself!!

Sounds a bit harsh. Kwit Fit might be a bit iffy at the best of times, but I wouldn't have thought there's much damage they could do with your aircon if all they did was a regas - they've just got to connect up the machine and leave it running. I went to Nationwide a while back and got a full regas with leak test and anti-fungal treatment for £60.
