Featured Replies

95k service , what needs doing??

had cambelt and full service , and once over inspection thanks to unit18 at 75k

oil and filter change at 85k thanks to Voodoo motorsport

shes now reaching 95k , id liek to service it myself as i dont want to spend out more money on labour.

so whta needs doing , just the basics ? oil & filter , Air filter?

and can i reset the service counter without vag com, if so how?

thanks in advance Andy

thats it mate.ten thousand miles since your last service so just oil,oil filter.air filter. thats all. you can order everthing from your local skoda dealer their prices are reasonable. the oil i got ( not the long life ) from skoda is vw approved, it was fully synthetic platinum 5w 40 and it was £24 for 5 litres. as for the service reminder, do you have the user manual? it explains how to reset it in there. no need for vag com, but i think if the car was on the long life service interval ( 20,000 miles ) and you reset it yourself it will automatically revert to the variable service ( 10,000 ) but since you are servicing the car every 10.000 miles thats no problem.

plus pollen filter, plus maybe brake fluid change

thinking of doing my fuel filter too as i don't know when it was last done on mine

Got a feeling brake fluid is due around then, mine was done at 90k

<edit> its actually recommended to do the brake fluid every 2 years

Other than that just inspection, oil and oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, fault code scan

Clean the throttle body and replace the gasket if it's not been done in a while

And as Shroud said maybe change the fuel filter, they're cheap as chips. Will be doing mine soon as I suspect it's never been done!

brilliant thanks guys

brake fluid change will be next on the list with new disks and pads

after the lower arms are chaged thursday (uless the problem is something else)

ive read alot about people chaging gaskets and cleaning the throttle bodies, any particular reason why?

The crankcase breather system vents oil vapour back into the inlet to get burnt up by the engine but over time it condenses, cooks and cakes up around the throttle plate. The throttle plate then doesn't close properly so you get dodgy idling and running issues.

You can fit an oil catch can to get around this but if not I'd recommend cleaning the throttle body out (or at least checking it) every couple of years. I've cleaned some TBs on cars that had never been cleaned (80k-100k miles or more) and they weren't pretty!

Did my fuel filter this morning. 30 minutes and about the easiest job i've done apart from replacing the air filter element. Paid about £6 for a Bosch fuel filter from Eurocarparts. I would recommend removing the fuel filter fuse and running the car to relieve the pressure. Still got a mug full of fuel over the floor and arms and luckily the screw on the band that holds the filter in place wasn't too rusted up. Just make sure you fit the new filter with the arrow pointing towards the front of the car, as the filter plastic housing under the car has an arrow on it pointing the other way just to confuse you. (or at least it did on mine). You may also find the old filter has a date code on it, which i wasn't looking for, but it may save you the trouble of doing the job if you don't know when it was last done. Mine had a 2007 date stamp. ;)
