My Pioneer has died I think. sniff*

Featured Replies

cry.gifcry.gif I think after a brief surge back to life my Pioneer has died on me. cry.gifcry.gif

Last night, I pushed the open button to get to the audio settings and instead of moving down all the way, it moved about 1/4 of an inch, then stopped, then the power went... Power button didn't work, but pushing the open button again, seemed to make it open again, and play! confused.gif

Once I pushed the open button again to shut the front, it closed up and turned off... pushed the open button again, it opened up, turned on again, played nicely, then when I shut it... off again! neutral.gifeek.gif

Finally now, the thing is just dead, no open button or SRC button does anything and I'm left with a ded weight in my car. Anyone know what this might cost to repair, or if any, what possibly went wrong? I can't afford a new HU now, so may resort to using the Kenny I have for sale below, for a while.... Now need to find a good official Pioneer repair shop around the Exeter area! redface.giffrown.gif

Not happy with this, just before Xmas... frown.gif

I think you should have stuck to the factory ICE. YOu seem to have had nothing but trouble.

I'm now back to the factory HU plus 2 amps, comps and sub :D

What's happened to the Kenwood?

I didnt know you could run all that off a standard HU???

How does it sound?

I don't fancy going back to having tapes in my car, sorry, so OEM radio is out the window. I'll go back to using the Kenwood because when I removed it I realised it did have TWO preouts, what I needed. Looking back I should never have got the Pioneer TBH. As good as it is (or *was) the Kenwood is adequate for me.

The pain in the a55, is cutting my crimped speaker wires for the comps and cutting the Kenwood's wiring and re-joining.

What's happened to the Alpine?

You mean Kenwood :D

Got ****ed of with it not playing some discs and lost the surround so it looked crap in the dash.

You can buy a Pre-Out lead from www.bluespot.co.uk. This gives you 2 pre-outs (front-rear) and a remote lead. Only got the sub amp set up at the moment. Still sound deadening the front doors then after that i'll wire the amp for the front speakers up. But sounds alright. Just need an MP3 changer :thumbdwn:

I said Kenwood ;)

I had a similar problem with the Kenwood in my Colt not playing disks.

I've given up on ICE anyway now - can't be bothered changing stuff anymore.

Out of interest, which Pioneer model is it?

The DEH-8400MP. Very smart looking HU with blingin' screen, when the motor for the flip panel works.

Sorry for appearing dumb' date=' as I know nothing about car audio, but is it this thingy here?

That allows you to connect an amp up to the standard symphony headunit? If it does I might just go with that route and stick my active subwoofer thingy in and amp the speakers, i like the sound of having such a stealthy install...

Correct

I also like the idea of a stealthy install :D I also found the kenwood left too many cables behind the dash which forces the lower tray to stick out.

:cool::cool::cool:

Cheers for your advice mate, really appreciated, i had no idea you could do this. I think I would even forgo the convenience of MP3 player just to have the stealthy install.

BTW, are you amping the standard speakers? If so do they respond well to the extra power? I was thinking of hooking the active sub to one output and a 4 channel amp to power all the speakers to the other one (I do realise though that many people just amp the front speakers)... that should work ok shouldnt it?

Presumably then the Skoda headunit it made by Blaupunkt?

Anyway... I cant tell you how glad I am that you posted this :)

you sure its just not a doggy lose connection??

pull teh unit out and try movieng the wires behind it to all extreme anagles and see if it goes on and off...failing that it shoudl be repaied under warrenty..

Not sure who makes the HU Just know that the Blaupunkt cables work with it. Got standard speakers in the back and JBL 13cm comps up front. Amp for the front is a Alpine 4ch but 2 of the channels are fooked :thumbdwn: But might see if I can get it fixed so I can amp up the standard rears. Josh has his standard speakers amped, sound nice as well.

No probs mate.

Trouble is the unit isn't under warranty - its over a year old. Could be a loose connection, but the symptoms were such that I'm not convinced it is. :(

Could be a logic problem, have a look on the headunit for a reset buttom and press it. It will most likely need a small needle or something. All sony's have this. Could also be a fuse I suppose.

Faboka, if I could just trouble you with one more question. That pre-out adapter lead - does it just plug straight into the headunit or does something need to be "fettled"?
