Computer illiteracy

Featured Replies

Mrs Walrus and I need a new laptop. The main problem is that for the last 10 yers we've always used the ones that Mrs Walrus' work have provided and have never had to buy our own.

The secondary problem is that I know nothing about computers, other than how to use them.

We use the laptop as our main home computer, so as well as fairly basic work-related stuff it also spends a lot of its life on the web, looking after our music (via iTunes), photographs, videos etc and for watching TV/movies online. We also use it to Skype friends and family in far-flung corners, so it needs a camera capable of keeping up.

Don't want to spend a fortune, and don't feel like we really need to, given what we use it for, but budget isn't the main consideration.

So, my far-more-technically minded friends, what would you suggest? And where are the best deals at??

Cheers!

Soapy, Mrs Soapy and the pup.

Something like THIS would do well I think.

Would agree with that but get it from Asda for £397.

One word of advice, avoid celeron processors. the 'i' processors from intel are the latest and the best but a core2duo will see you fine.

Have a look on Dell oulet as you can get great deals from them and they are classed as refurbed but are basically just cancelled orders.
