Skoda Stream to Dance

Featured Replies

This is the first time i have posted on any kind of forum so please be gentle.

I have an Octavia ii vRS, the car has has issues regarding the standard head unit (HU). It went in to Skoda yesterday to have the HU changed under warentee. When i picked it up they had fitted a "Dance" HU with a new surround.

Does anyone know that this is a comparible unit?

Should it go into an Octavia? i can only link it back to the Fabia, and it does look slightly odd (don't know if it's just because its different)

Should they have fitted Belaro HU?

I would like to know your thoughts before i go back to Skoda.

Phone up another dealer or even your dealer posing as an octy customer and ask them which HU its supposed to come with. Try a few Skoda dealers to get an accurate answer. Hope this helps

Not seen a Dance unit fitted to an Octy2. Got any photos of the unit in place?

Not sure if it's standard now, but they do look very comparable, pretty much identical screen size and button layout:

Stream (corner tabs removed for HU removal):

Dance:

From that I'd *assume* they had v.similar functionality.

Edit: The Bolero is a significant upgrade so I wouldn't have expected them to fit that as a direct replacement for a broken Stream.

Edit again: In fact, assuming this is the correct manual, it looks like it has slightly more functionality than the Stream, as the manual claims it can play mp3s.

(Though the URL does have it as a Fabia HU.)

Of course, if you have the Stream MP3 it'll be the same.

Stream and Dance are exactly the same functionality wise, since the stream is now discontinued the dance is the equivalent unit. The Bolero is the equivalent of the old Audience headunit which is also discontinued.

My Stream mp3 was replaced by a Dance under warrenty today. The functions are slightly different. I am now unable to display the time, temp or climate settings on the display. Also the dealer is waiting for the software to enable the Aux function to work.

I feel the unit looks 'cheap'. The surround was also replaced, this also looks cheap and also slightly different than the rest of the cars trim.

I am still following this up with Skoda, the dealer agreed with me that it is not a suitable replacement but he say that Skoda feel that it is a suitable replacement. I argured with Skoda customer services yesterday, but i felt like i was banging my head against the wall. I'm going to have to follow a full complaints proceedure. I will also follow the line that it is not a suitable replacement because, like you said : no time, temp, or no lights on the radio selection, my other argument will be that if i were to purchase a vRS today it would come with a Bolero NOT a Dance.

I'll leep the forum updated, can you do the same?

Will go to dealer tomorrow and have a chat. Will keep you informed.

I know it's not ideal, but you shouldn't have too much difficulty sourcing a 2nd hand Stream mp3 from this place. I think there's one in the For Sale section currently. You might be able to get a contribution from Skoda towards it.

I agree about the Dance looking "cheaper", there was one in the courtesy car I had a while back, the finish on the plastic feels rougher, and there's no shiny ring (oo-er) around the power/volume know, amongst other things.

I have sent a letter to Skoda UK complaining about the poor quality of plastics and lack of features that were on the stream unit. I have received a reply stating the company that made the Stream units has gone into receivership. The Dance model is now felt to be the most equivilent model. After receiving the reply, I telephone the named person on the letter. She said they had had no other complaints and that the features of the unit do not affect the 'like for like' replacement according to warrenty terms and conditions. I will now be taking the matter further. Anyone got any ideas of where send my issues?
