suspension worries

Featured Replies

Hi Guys and girls would like some advise in suspension issues. Not my Vrs but my mk 1 octy 1.9tdi 130bhp with 76k 2004. Whilst driving over bumpy back roads getting a knocking from front end whilst hitting bumps sounds more near side. Not that technically minded and will obviously get it checked professionally but does it sound like shot dampers or bushes or more sisister? appreciate it will be guessing game from your point of view but wondered if octys are known for eating bushes or the like? had new MOT 1 month ago maybe I will have some come back.

The car is perfect on motorways or a roads its just issue on our quality inner city roads.

Thanks for reading.

Hi there i had a similar knocking come my front end it turned out to be the bottom arms needed changing will give you a word of warning the lad i bought it off changed the bottom arms just before i bought it from him but they were just cheap bottoms arms and they were destroyed in under a week so if it is them make sure you purchase quality ones or you could end up forking out more than once

wishbone bushes or worn shocks.

id replace wishbone bushes first. dont go and buy patent parts, get the powerflex bushes it makes a huge difference to handeling, tyre wear.. the whole lot.. id never look back

could be track rod ends if only doin it over bumps

I am betting that this is you problem buddy, Bottom links go from your ARB to suspension wishbone (on your model) and can cause quite loud knocking if worn. Very easy to replace too.

Would not suggest this as a first option, although should check and not rule out, but expensive to replace if not the cause(if garage fitting). Would not also recomend powerflex on a none VRS motor , even a VRS motor as they don't last very long at all , unless you have the revised version. (can show pics of mine after 4 months use). They fall apart big time and a much better option is the Audi TT solid bush if going none standard.

But as stated worth checking drop links first.
