My Yeti Compromise - First Post

Featured Replies

I got my new Yeti on Friday, Steel Grey SE, 110 bhp. It's the end of a 23 week wait and even then I didn't quite get the car I ordered.

Back on 6th February I ordered on Storm Blue SE, 110 bhp with two options - spare wheel and lumbar support. The planned delivery date was 30th April, then 21st May, then 18th June. On 16th June (!!) the dealer called me and said my car was now due on 10th August and did I want to wait for the new registration?! Anyway a bit of research by the salesman turned up a dark green SE with spare wheel "at the factory" so a bit of financial horse-trading followed and I switched to that one. Except that a few days later it was grey and not green and not the dark grey of their Skoda UK sourced demo car (I now know that was Anthracite) but really more Silver. Back to 6th February, colours I didn't want - light blue, silver and beige.

What next? Give up and buy a something else, wait another 6 months for a blue one (of course my build slot had now gone) or? So, more horse-trading. It may be a horrible colour but the discount was growing and the p/ex price was fixed in February.

And then Friday I got the "I'll believe it when I see it" moment and the silver car arrived. The car seems basically fine. It has to go back next week to have some rattles and a knock from the rear suspension sorted out (so that's one more unscheduled dealer visit than I had in five years of Honda motoring but I guess I have to compromise there too).

Here we go then, good bits are that it's pretty comfortable (the main reason for getting it) and no one else seems to have one. Bad bits are that the engine is much rougher and noisier than I remembered and the two problems from above. It's pretty thirsty too, over the first 200 miles (one long trip and a short run to the golf club) it's burned over 75% of the first (full) tank of diesel. The computer shows an average consumption of 109 mpg - so maybe make that three problems to sort out.

Definitely the only one in my village too, just wish it was a nicer colour.

Skoda Winchester have a Yeti 110 Elegance in stock which I *think* is dark grey. Looks gorgeous.

I was really keen to get a Yeti 110, but the consumption worried me. Top Gear magazine has one (110) on long term test and seem to think the 24mpg they are getting to be "OK, but would prefer more". I'd say it was abysmal.

Ah well, only 9 more sleeps till I pick up my Greenline and put thoughts of Yeti ownerhip behind me

You have 30 days to change your mind, as long as it is same spec  I would have waited, we ordered a Citroen Ds3 sport on March the 2nd and it will be ready on the 31st of July, but we are in France for two weeks from the 1st so are getting it on 60 plate in September. We will just give the dealer the wife's car when they want it as it was a guaranteed value put on it when we signed, but not till next plate. No bother as we our without 2 cars for only 2 weeks and she can use mine as I cycle to work.£300 pounds better off when we come to sell on the newer plate B)

I have a Steel Grey Yeti (ex demonstrator) but I think this colour is really classy, but each to his own.

My fuel consumption, according to the computer, has averaged 43 mpg over 1700 miles.

I hope that you're 110 will settle down and wonder if the tank was actually full?

Tank was full, I brimmed it when I got the car. Just now I brimmed it again - 38 and a bit litres for 210 miles since I got it. That's 8.4 gallons and about 25mpg. Long trip tomorrow so if this is the norm I'll be stopping twice for fuel .

Well 10th August morphed into 30th September build and availability in mid-October - over 8 months from order to delivery and, frankly, no confidence whatsoever that we wouldn't end up near the first anniversary.

No idea where you get the idea that you have 30 days to change your mind.

Well, for what it's worth I happen to really like the Steel Grey colour. It suits a 4x4 SUV, especially the Yeti. I'm getting an average fuel consumption of around 45 mpg in my CR170 so, I'm a bit surprised at the low figures for the 110.

Are you sure your fuel consumption reading is the correct one for the average? There are two readings on the MFD - one which generally shows a stupidly high figure (can't remember what this is for, I think it's an instant reading for consumption). The other, with a crossed out circle (the symbol for average) gives you your actual average fuel consumption for the trip. It might be a good idea to reset these.

i like steel grey so much i ordered one...pick up weds  ....as for yours im sure mpg will improve given time... ;)

I think Steel Grey looks good on the Yeti and indeed ours is that colour, so my sympathy for your predicament is somewhat diminished.

I am sure that you may have already considered this but if you have a spare wheel fitted then the knock from the rear suspension that you have reported may well be the flaps on the wheel cover in the boot. Mine made a noise that sounded just like a faulty knocking rear damper but I later found it to be the cover flaps on the boot floor jumping and then slapping shut. If you haven't already done so, go to your boot and give the little flaps a flick. If the noise sounds just like a suspension knock then that is one less thing to worry about. Solve the problem with a boot floor protector over the top of them to stop them jumping or just tape them down.

The fuel computer is not working properly both instant and average are stuck on 109mpg, the true mpg figure of 25mpg was my calculation based on brimming the tank twice and driving c 200 miles in between.

I tried that one thanks, not that I'm afraid but there is a dirty oily stain all down the driver's side damper (very sad to say I crawled underneath after I found oil drips on the drive). Not going to use it on my long drive tomorrow, instead I'm asking the dealer to get it collected and fixed.

Sorry ,that must be for used cars only, but as this isn't the colour, you ordered, and you are having plenty problems I would reject it anyway and get them to find another, if they can do it for a used why not a new? All the best mate, I hope you get it sorted

Well, the thing is back today, I took half a day off work to collect it (costing me real money). It's apparently "perfect". But on the way back the rattles were worse than before, the suspension was making strange creaking noises and the engine was tractor like. From a brim full tank I've burned about a quarter according to the gauge covering 50 miles.

The range started at 380 when I brimmed the car and now shows 215. Suggestion is that they have fixed the computer at least.

Still seems like 25mpg to me.

There is something wrong with the engine. I have a TDI 110 and am constantly surprised at how quiet and smooth the engine is. My last car had a 1.6 litre 90hp common-rail HDI engine and the Yeti TDI 110 is better in every way and is even equalling it in economy, currently 57 mpg.

REJECT it i get more mpg than that with my 2.0 Turbo petrol VRS! sorry to hear of your continuing woes

I have had my 110 2WD (in black) for just over 2 weeks and covered 1500 mikes. I absolutely love it. Feel so much fresher after a long drive than my previous Civic (2.2 diesel). Lacks power compared but I naturally adopted a different driving style.

My trip computer tells me I have averaged 51.5 over the 1500 miles. Long motorway journeys see about 59mpg. Journey to work, 25 miles over country roads dual carriageway and busy city roads gives me 55ish mpg. The most frugal car I've had! Still has good low down torque for manouevering. Can't beat it!

Agree with the other comments here. Something definitely wrong with that particular car. Great shame! Reject if you can.

Cheers

Simon

Now, that's the sort of thing that would have persuaded me to have bought the Yeti over the Octavia Greenline; I'd be happy with that from the 110.

But 25 is just not right, and I'd be straight back to the dealer if that was the case

Great start to a Saturday - it won't start - dead as a dead thing. Electrics working, as in it unlocks and the dash lights up but turn the key and NOTHING.

The planned Saturday of "sort out the Skoda problem" was kind of predicated on the Skoda moving under it's own steam.

Good thing I like my wife's car.

Time to put that Skoda AA cover to use!
