Budget Road rally felly

Featured Replies

Ok a few months ago i decided i would have a go at road rallying as special stage rallying is just getting too expensive (even thought about selling the stage car at one point , still might yet)

so i set about finding a felly that was cheap enough to not worry about but had some MOT left,

enter P28RGT for sale on here, it is a L&K one but had a dead engine.. one trip to yorkshire later i had myself a car and the missus had herself some nice leather seats :wonder: (she didn't get the leccy windows tho :punch:

anyway in true form i had no money left to spend on fancy bits so stuffed a 136mpi engine in (we erm have a few ) and set about doing as many bits as i could for nothing :S , a friend's nephew is always lurking around the workshop and is interested in cars etc (he is only 14) and quickly became involved (see slave labour isn't dead yet) he is also going to navigate.

so far i have fitted diesel front struts and springs and ARB and estate rear struts with the intention of gaining some ground clearance as most road events are fairly rough now (some even use forestry roads)

i made an uprated engine mount (mainly as the old one was broken and i could ) which should stop excessive movement and ensures you cant drop off to sleep while in the car

i also just happened to have a kevlar sump gaurd off an ex works GPA fav so bout time i used it too.

next step is to fit the big brake kit i have (256mm X 24mm vented disks as its already on 14 inch wheels

also the cat kinda fell off along with the centre box which means there is lots more space under the car and less things to get knocked off..

also swapped all the carpet for fav ones as they are around 10 kgs lighter and almost fit (it has to have all trim for road rallys)

first rally is next month the holrus novice rally and i am hoping that we can do ok and maybe do a few more as they are lots cheaper than stage rallys..

anyway some pics of my rent a wreck (i will get round to cleaning the outside honest)

oh and i fitted a bosch altanator from a ford escort as the skoda ones are not the best to rely on all night

Are you going to guard the fuel lines where they get to their lowest under the rear of the floor pan?

na... i'm going to run them inside next weekend, the one is that rusty it will leak if i poke at it anyway

Intrigued about the carpet, I thought the Favorit carpet was quite good quality, nice and thick, compared to that of some other cars :) I've seen rustier looking fuel lines and they never caused a problem.

ahh yes but the fav carpet is just carpet where as the felly carpet is backed with sound deadening tar like stuff..

the fav has its sound deadening on the underlay..

the fuel lines would take a pounding where they are located and certainly wouldn't survive getting hit too hard

bear in mind a tank of unleaded is probly going to double the value of the car i dont want to be leaking it :giggle:

Yeah, they're REALLY vulnerable there, had to guard mine on the recce car and they still take a bashing when you're on loose/rough stuff.

looks lke some pikey has nicked your cat, and the centre silencer

those brake pipes look rotten too

haha yea got £25 for the cat off our local recycler.. all the pipes underneath are long gone mate. 2 weeks till the first road rally now..

is that phil's old L&K?

diid you make that sump guard? i need to figure out a way of protecting my stainless manifold from being quenched wiith rainwater/puddles and a sump guard would be an ideal solution

i got the L&K from barnsley cant remember the blokes name now tho, sump gaurd is off a factory gpA favorit but being kevlar its not so good with the front exhaust engines (as i found out on my 1.6 years ago)

a nice bit of chequer plate would do a tidy job and i can maesure this one up if you like
