Water in the Secondary Air Pump....where is it coming from? (Pics)

guys....apologies for the delay, i know you all must have been having sleepless nights wondering what part caused all of this mess :p

took it to the dealers and it turned out to be the combi valve being nackered. it just wasnt doing the job it was intended to do and was indeed just spouting dirty exhaust gas back into the SAIP. combi valve was £80 and all is well. However after spending the money and getting the SAIP fitted I cant help think that it was all a waste of time. reading various forums about the SAIP removal plus other vac system removal it would appear that most people that modify their 1.8 20v turbo get rid of all of this ****e anyway.

i am thinking of modding the vrs soon and heres what i have planned

STAGE 2 custom REMAP

FORGE T.I.P

FORGE 007PA DV (purchased)

Smooth out and (degroove) the Airbox and fit a cold air feed (alot of cupra r owners swear by this on the forum) ?!

HIGH FLOW Manifold

Turbo Back exhaust system with de-cat

what do you guys think? anyone have experience of a high flow manifold on the vrs? apparently the above is good for 240BHP.....what you think?

Cheers

Good to hear the combi valves sorted - does the car drive better now?

I take it by a high flow manifold you mean a high flow inlet manifold?

If you want 240bhp it would be more cost effective to change your turbo, you'll struggle to get anywhere near that on a K03S. There are half a dozen or more members on here with K03S VRS's with all those mods and more and the cars don't produce those kind of figures. Things like a TIP and a high flow inlet manifold are £££s for just a few extra bhp, it's just chasing figures. You're better off either with simple power upgrades like a stage 1 map and exhaust, that aren't going to cost the earth, or go the whole hog and go big turbo. The middle ground just ends up being too expensive in the long run.

Have you thought about brake and suspension mods?

ello maaaate...long time no speak!

car does drive a hell of alot better. and the initial loud turbo sound i had has now completely gone. it got quieter when the SAIP was replaced, but now with the combi valve replaced it is so much quieter. i honestly think it was just that exhaust gas escaping into the SAIP rather than going through the turbo that was making the noise!! :wall:

i see what you mean about the "middle ground" mods. yeah it was inlet manifold i was on about. its just from reading the cupar r forums theres a few guys on there pushing 240bhp with the mods specified below, is there a lot of difference between the AUQ octavia vrs 1.8t and the ibiza cupra r motor?

was thinking coil overs not sure which ones tho? maybe an ARB if there are any available for the octy vrs and then wanting a large porsche brake upgrade

I definitely recommend a rear ARB - Eibach and Whiteline are the names that spring to mind.

Aren't Cupra Rs the 225 engine? Which has quite a few upgraded internal components.

By the way according to my last dyno my stage 2 map with decat and a few other small mods makes 207 bhp at the wheels.

hi rob

yeah see what you mean, seems expensive to be chasing the 200+bhp figures. mmmmm yo got me thinking now.

i think that the leon cupra r is 225, but ibiza cupra r is 180bhp....the mods were to an ibiza cupra r mentioned on this forum i was reading which made me wonder about getting similar figures with the skoda 180bhp 1.8t

Depending on what calculations you choose mine works out at 230-240 at the flywheel. But there is much scepticism :)

That was before fitting the FMIC. Need to get it re-tested.

There has been one Briskodian who claimed 250 using the K03S standard turbo.

My graphs:

thanks for that Rob. this briskodian claiming 250bhp on the standard turbo - did he have any graphs to back up his claims? i think what is really deceiving is the fact that no two dynos give the same readings (some have a 15-20bhp) difference between each other) from what i have read on here and other forums!

well the guy on this seat forum that claims 259bhp from his seat ibiza cupra r, had an uprated FMIC, all of the mods i have mentioned, a standard turbo. but he was able to change the "timing" of his car. not sure what that meant but on a cold day, with the timing adjusted thats when he got his 259bhp.

i would like to buy in the inlet manifold just to see how she goes after the fitting. £400 though! yeah the ARB is a def purchase i think - do you need to change anything else in order to fit one? once all of the power has been sorted then i can concentrate on the handling and once that is sorted then i wouldn't mind going to the nurburgring. we should all organize a date and do a mass briskoda road trip through germany to the ring - that would be awesome! :drunk:

I am pondering going stage 2. I have a stage 1 remap at the moment and its awesome, but have since managed to pick up a blueflame cat back for £25 off eBay, so all I'd really need is a front mount intercooler and the rest of the turbo back to be ready for a stage 2. I do wonder whether its worth the extra expense though and whether it would be a noticeable step in power over stage 1?

Des's old car (the black one) ran that on one single occasion on Impossible Performances rollers but was never able to repeat that figure, AFAIK it usually ran about mid 230's on Mikes rollers and on other companies'.

That would be awesome, there was a Briskoda trip last year and I'm doing one again next month with a couple of other Octy VRS owners but will try and get some numbers together for a possible summer 2011 trip
