how much is too much? tunning a vrs?

Featured Replies

how much is too much with tunning the vrs fabia? lets say the brakes and handling are all sorted which state of tune would give the best driverbility? eg getting away from lights smoothly, wet weather driving, etc. been lookin at the different stages on the jabba website and although 260bhp sounds good will it not actually make it not as good to drive because the power cant be put down as good as just say a 200 bhp one? opinions please?

all sounds good giving the VRS a kick up the butt to that power, 260bhp sounds great doesn't it. However I think you hit the nail on the head when you put is it drivable?

if you only use the car as a bit of a toy or weekend drive the power her up to the hilt. but if you need to use the car 5-7 days a week transporting yourself to and from work on any of the UK's roads (pot-holed rubbish that they are) then pull it back a bit.

At end of day it depends on budget and what you want from the car in the end. if you will be using it for track days and racing up the 1/4 mile the push it to the limit.

enjoy

Remember your clutch etc...!

Standard limits are about 280ish lb/t. So anything around and above this figure you really need to look after it (unless your willing to uprate. The same goes for alot of parts when mapping, be prepared to spend money! Warrick Hunt has a very tuned car, so may be worth speaking to him.

Sween,

don't know if you noticed but he has already got an uprated clutch, but it doesn't say if he has a SMF or DMF. oh well. I would hope a SMF as he has paid out for the Sach kit.

yeah already got the clutch when i got my remap

my bad...

to be fair, the costs involved in getting the handling sorted would be OTT...but I use my mk4 Ibiza with paddle clutch, SMF diff etc every day and it's fine. even the "bone shaking" Cupra suspension hasn't been an issue

IMO if you're talking bolt-on mods then 200-220 on a stage 1 hybrid turbo, IMO. Couple that with a decat and maybe a less restrictive backbox and the turbo should still spool quite nicely.

Has any body whos commenting on this actually done it?

Im over 200bhp and the total of parts is around 6.5k

That includes 2 clutches and 2 sets of fmic piping

Crikey Banana Tobacco, include price paid for car, you could be driving a BMW. LOLemoticon-0105-wink.gif

It was all done when i got it but ive had to put another clutch in and fmic piping

And i still got owned by a mapped 330d

Definitely no limits on "normal" TDI tuning! I daily drive my car and is fine to get off the line etc. Just need to know how to drive it properly. One key thing when pushing big power is having a diff as it puts that extra (usually uncontrollable) power down very nicely indeed.

When do you plan to learn?

I don't think we've seen the ultimate from the Fabia/Polo/Ibiza platform when it comes to diesels. I've been browsing tdiclub forums for a while now and the variety is stunning. I'd like to see someone try compound turbos on our platform. The space to do it may be the thing though...

I'm only at 170-175 bhp from a jabba generic remap. Next step would involve proper money but first I need to find a job.
