Yeti joins Auto Express fleet

Featured Replies

Skoda UK must be handing them out to all the motoring magazines now. Auto Express have a newly arrived 1.2 TSI. No reports on the vehicle yet apart from a few comments '(Their photographer) was worried its tiny 1.2 - litre petrol engine would run out of puff, weighed down by all of his camera gear, but the turbocharged unit has quickly won him over'

Several SM's were lent out as safety vehicles on a Scottish rally earlier in the year. Don't know which rally, but I believe they had lots of problems with punctures on the forest tracks!

Well they were using standard road tyres at almost competitive speeds, so not exactly a problem with the Yeti. Actually they got a very good report.

I used to be a member of Liverpool MC!!

The Yeti will again be used as course car for the Rally of Scotland this year: http://skoda.rallye-info.com/article.asp?sid=6&stid=8737

Anyone thinking of going? Should be several Fabia S2000s on this event too.

Fair comment about standard tyres, though i was assured by one of the drivers that they were travelling at "ordinary off road speeds". He's a LR Series IIA driver (and my deputy CofC) so in his case i tend to believe him, though I can't speak for others! Otherwise, he was very impressed with the SM.

Used my SM as course car on the Aintree Sprint in June. First time in 12 years that it wasn't my Escort RS2000 4x4 (which was poorly). I have to say that the Yeti was extremely competent, especially when doing snatch tows to get broken-down vehicles off the course. Cornering was not quite up to the RS standards, but then you wouldn't expect it to be. On the other hand, maybe I was being slightly more gentle given that new Yeti boots will be 3 times the price of the Escorts!

Lots of interest in the Yeti from regulars at the event. No-one asked about fuel consumption, everyone wanted to know how quick it is! Fuel consumption that day was awful... too many demos. Well, it would have been rude not to!

I should get Skoda sponsorship... I could have sold 10 that day, & I know 3 people have placed orders.

Oh, and I'm Chairman of LMC by the way!

I suspect that some of them weren't hanging around!!

Perhaps I shall have to be a bit more careful out on the Stages than I was in the Freelander.

I remember Aintree events from back in the mid 70's when I was a member of LMC and the evening "navigation test" that were never timed (hummm hummm!!) I took part navigating a HA Viva.
