Hello.

Heard a horrible grinding noise when pressing front driver's window button.

Have investigated as much as I can or dare.

The cable looks a little rusted and has snapped - arrrggghhh.

Is this a Diy job for a novice or should I get it into someone that knows what they are doing?

not a big job if you can remove the door panel the window regulator comes complete including the complete panel under this panel thus the price around £100 the only awkard part is removing the outer door handle this requires a tork screw driver and is accessed from a hole above the door lock remember you just loosen the screw enough to pull out the door handle after that it's fairly straight forward

If its any help , here is a pic of the back of said metal frame which I took off my passenger door couple of weeks ago. I would imagine thedrivers side is similair
