De-VRSing opinions

Featured Replies

What are people's opinions on de-VRSing my black VRS?

I'm going down the smooth route with mine so tempted to get non VRS bumpers with the rubbing strips smoothed out.

I would also de-spoiler and de-wiper the tailgae and add a lip spoiler

Car is going to be rolling on 18inch BBS CH alloys from tonight and I have the option of decking it on the coilovers.

Opinions?

Leave it as is.

At best you'll have car that's more likely to pick up dents in car parks

At worst, you'll have a car that looks like a 1.4 Classic that's had some vRS bits thrown at it.

If you fit a non vRS front bumper, you wont get any air through your intercooler.

They look good as they are, new wheels yes, but leave the rest, foo'!

Just look at a black L&K. thats about what it will look like, common imo. Why have a vRS and make it look like a normal one?

Ide leave it mate, smooth things ok and remopve the vRS badges if you must but leave the spoiler and bumpers.

Agreed! Leave as it is mate. Remove door strips but if you smooth over the bumper strips there's no way of removing the bumpers as the bolts are behind the rub strips that hold the bumper to the car, just get the strips smoothed n painted, fit bbs's and lower with coilovers.

Yea defo fit std bumpers to it (then sell me your black rear bumper please :giggle: )

as others said why not just buy a black octy and remap it

You cant smooth the octy 1 bumpers, the bolts to remove and bolt the bumper on are behind the rubbing strip and it needs to be removable to access them. Then you have the engine intercooler which is mounted behind the drivers side front lower grill, if you block this then engine performance will be dramatically reduced as the engine will not get the required cool air from the turbo.

Already found a way of smoothing bumpers thanks to a very clever local body shop!

Just fancied found what the dub boys do and "down badging" it as such

And I will swap you my standard black front one emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

It's in mint condition too as it was only this year resprayed by a professional bodyshop.

Interesting idea.

It's good to be different :)

I dare you to spray the CH wheels orange ;)

I double dare you to do yours :p

I know I said it was good to be different but some people go too far :giggle:

I'd remove the VRS spoiler and replace it with the little lip spoiler off a 4x4 turbo. Don't think I'd go as far as changing the bumpers though. The air flow with standard bumpers is ok (as they are fitted to the 150bhp 1.8T models) but I just think the bumpers on the VRS make it look less like a taxi

I went the other way, standard bumper to vRS bumper :smirk:

sweedish had a "spare" vRS bumper and badgered me for some months to change it. Glad I did B)

There is no difference in airflow between the two bumpers. The FMIC/front tow hitch hole is the exactly the same size internally.

The grill inserts from the vRS can be made to fit into the standard bumper, but would require careful measuring/cutting/fitting. The standard bumper has more rounded grill edges.

This is what a 4x4 rear end/lip spoiler looks like for reference

There wouldn't be any point in changing the rear bumper, the only difference is the exhaust cut-out.

Unless on course you want to go fully camo, and loose the vRS exhaust :giggle:

This photo shows completely standard (just after I bought the car)

to present (lowered, R32 wheels + vRS Bumper)

Nice pics!

I like the look of the smoothed rear bumper and having the exhaust hidden or sitting just below.

4x4 spoiler looks exactly what I want!

With the front bumper I would use the VRS inserts.

Still tempted, but as with all mods I need to think about whether I'd get bored again!

As said, if you do consider changing the front one. I have a mint condition standard bumper i'd be willing to swap provided yours is also in good nick? Fairly large distance between us logistically but we could maybe meet in the middle if it comes to it.

the front bumper is just not as nice as the vrs, somehow the vrs one just looks like it should be there.

told you it looks better snowmuncher ;) :p
