HELP which reliability

Featured Replies

Hello

Just looking to change my car, obviously I have set my mind to a Superb II.

Unfortunately I just checked Which magazine website and they gave 2 stars out of 5 for reliability. I even phoned them and they said there are 58 samples (owners of superb 2) which reported many breakdowns and faults.

I was very surprised as this forum has only praise for the Superb from reliability point of view.

What do Superb owners really think?

Please help me out and if we come in force maybe we can send the data to Which magazine as well to prove them different.

Thank you

Nick

Since Skoda shares the same components as most Audi and VW models you would expect similar relability issues and on reading the article there seems to be no consistency. the only issue I have had with my Superb is the well documented poor speakers in the doors and a Columbus head unit which throws the occasional "wobbler". The rest of the car has been exceptional and I can safely say that I would not replace it for anything this side of £30 grand.

I was very surprised as this forum has only praise for the Superb from reliability point of view.

I've found that the contributors to this forum, in the vast majority, speak plainly and are forthright. If the overall concensus is praise, then you can take that as an accurate reflection of the membership, because they're certainly not backward in coming forward if anything's wrong! :)

I am astounded. I have had my 170cr Elegance since October 2008 and as yet I have only returned to the dealer once for a service. I have no issues whatever to complain about.

I will wait for hopefully more responses.

Thank you in advance for everybody trying to send a message to "Which " magazine.

Our Superb (170CR Elegance) is now 18 months old and has done around 30k. It has proved reliable.

Only issues:

Ignition Switch replaced (Service Bulletin) - caused some very occaiosnal minor gremlins, fix successful.

Front Fog Lights replaced (Service Bulletin) - as far as I was concerned, it didn';t need doing.

Modification to boot lock (Service Bulletin)

Software update to Columbus (to correct some rare, minor issues).

We also had to have the clutch master cylinder replaced.

We opted to have the Wheel Alignment done (to get better tyre wear).

----------

We go for fixed servicing and use BP ultimate (in the hope of keeping the Engine Happy long term).

Well all I can say is that I have had my cr170 elegance for 18 months and now got 65.5k on the clock as for reliability no real issues at all.

It still turns heads and I am still getting 55 to the gallon going to work and back.

I have had my Superb since October last year. To date I have had no problems with the car. It's a great car.

Had my Superb II since December 2008, fog lamps and boot modification under warranty, only early builds were involved. No other problems or complaints. If only 58 vehicles were sampled I should ignore, and concentrate on the forum reports.

My new Superb II Hatch arriving September, this will be my second Mk II my others were Mk I, if I had any doubts on the vehicles I would not be getting another.

I've had my 170cr Elegance since the first week in Jan 2010. I've got about 16k KM on the clock and I've had no mechanical issues at all.

The main thing that's a problem is the Columbas SatNav and pairing with my iPhone 3Gs. It'll connect and disconnect semi frequently and also the BT connection crashes the iPhone once in a while when I get an incoming call which makes it a little useless for hands free.

WHICH, ain't worth a bolt, they have probably come to their conclusions based on 3 users, if you want a fair review google Whatcar and see what they say.

Good Morning

That is why I rang them and they said they have a "sample table" of 58 cars and there are loads of breakdowns and faults

Nick

I am a "Which" subscriber and whilst I find the consumer information mostly useful I tend to favour the opinions of the dedicated motoring press. A year ago the same suppliment did not even recognise the existense of the Superb 2. It is only lately that Skoda has been included in their features. The Roomster mainly!! . That says it all !!.

I still wouldn't let them decide for you, as far as I know the Sup 2 is no more unreliable than any other car, mind you you will have high expectation if you are used to Toyota, I can tell you now the Skoda dealer in general won't be able to match the Toyota one for customer services, VAG makes sure of that.

I don't have any idea of the total number of Superbs sold in the UK, but 58 seems to me to be a sample of little, if any, statistical significance. If it is the total sample, I'd also find it difficult to believe that there were no positive response, unless the survey only wanted to hear negatives. Either way, there are 134 respondents on here (at least), which I would have thought was a statistically safer bet. :)

I have just received the paper magazine today. I found they divide the reliability into 3 categories:

1 breakdowns ****

2 faults ***

3 niggles *

(stars out of 5)

And of course after I gather more feedback on this topic I will send them an email including a link to our responses
