Thud/Bang type noise

Featured Replies

Did a search but couldn't find anything exactly like what I'm experiencing in my vRS.

For the last month or so I've noticed that either when accelerating (relatively aggresively; although not always flooring it) in lower gears; or braking quite sharply/going round corners theres a weird sort of thud noise coming from somewhere in the front of the car. It only seems to do one 'thud/clunk' at a time, its quite loud; almost as if somethings hit the car underneath- I've often looked behind to check nothing fell off the car!

If I speed up then slow down and start driving again I can get the same thud. I can't work out whether its linked to the clutch as it seems to do it when pulling away and changing gears, but if I drive really passively it doesn't seem to do it. Its getting a bit scary now as it sounds as if its falling apart!

Getting an MOT done tomorrow then will probably have to get it in for a check if that doesn't reveal anything (not really expecting it to) just wondered if anyone has had anything similar?

Cheers!

Sounds like 'Dogbone' up the spout, allowing engine/gearbox to rock about.

Dudey it could be dogbone mount which is located underneath the car. The plastic undertray needs to be taken off to get to it. The mount is about £50 i think. Had mine done last month. The other mount that could go is the side engine mount which is found underneath the battery tray(sometimes it might need lubricating with PTFE spray grease)

The other thing it could be is those wishbone bushes (console bushes). They've not been done on your car yet have they?

Also worth checking the wishbones arms are tightened up nicely and there's no movement in them as this as I found out can cause that knocking sound when releasing and dipping clutch or change gears.

let me know how the MOt goes. good luck : B)
