Fuse for Horn always blows

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2005 Octy, 1.9tdi. It constantly blows the fuse, i have replaced it twice. Each time i put the new fuse in I beep the horn once and its fine. Then a second attempt, nothing, check the fuse and its blown again. I've tried the regular fuses you get at the service station and also some from the main dealer. Both with the same result. anyone come across this before?

Thanks

What size fuse are you putting in ? and what size should it be ?

Assuming you have the correct fuse in then it will blow every time you blow the horn because there is a fault causing a short circuit in the wiring, either you have dirty contacts on the steering wheel buttons or a fault in the horn itself causing too much current to be drawn, or more likely, the wire supplying current to the horn has chafed through where it comes into contact with a part of the car body which means the wire in the core is touching the car body and allowing electricity to flow straight back without any resistance, current shoots up and the fuse blows, either way I'm sorry to say that some investigating through the car tracing the wire to find a possible cause is the first answer.
