Dying Rear Wiper Motor

Featured Replies

Looks like I may have one for the snagging list on my new Scout. The rear wiper is OK on the first stroke but on the return stroke the motor sounds like it's not going to make it..

Feauture or fault. My old Elegance used to whip that old blade round the rear screen.

New Scout and sound here too, but not like the motor is dying. It is noisy nonetheless.

Yeah it's noisy but it's got that I'm not going to make it back to the rest position and may stop halfway kind of noise .....

Dodgy rear wiper motor is one of most common faults on an octy - along with the fact that they are noisy. Mine died on my vRS after a year (well actually started to stop working after 5 mins use, then work again ok), and I assume it's exactly the same motor that they use for the scout. Replaced for free under warranty of course (and a very quick job) and has been fine ever since, but the standard price for the part at my local dealer was £45 (plus £15 labour) so its not a bank breaker even if it happpens outside of the warranty period...

Thanks for that Delacroix. I'm not overly concerned. It's still working at the mo. I'll enjoy the car for a while and take it in before the winter hits if needed.
