Hill Hold not working.... Maybe

Featured Replies

Mmmm... New Scout and a couple of problems. One is the rear wiper in another thread.

The other is the Hill Hold. I'm not really fussed about it but would like it working if it's on my car.

The second day I had the car it was definatley working. I live on a very steep hill. I reversed out of the drive. Put the handbrake on. Engaged first gear and took the handbrake off. The car held by itself and off I went.

It does not appear to have worked since.

I've just come home and stopped on the steepest part of the hill. Engaged the handbrake and taken the car out of gear. Waited 5 seconds put the car in gear and released the handbrake.

The car immediatly rolled back and I had to catch it on the footbrake. Tried this a couple of times with no hold.

Am I doing something wrong ?

Think you have to hold with the footbrake first (have to on transit at work anyway) then when you release brake to go for accelerator the hill hold will come into action. No point in hill hold if your using the handbrake - sort of defeats the object really?!?! ;)

Yes, first touch the brakes with your foot, so you should be keeping your foot on the brakes, and when you take it off, then HillHold will keep it 2-3 seconds. You will feel the break pedal is pressurized if you take the foot off and step on it again.

As above. Operates from the footbrake not handbrake.
