sqeaky alternator drive belt?

Featured Replies

My drive belt on my 1.9 pick up has always screeched for the first 2-3 minutes on start up before it shuts up. I thought the belt must be old and stretched so replaced it. annoyingly it hasnt made any difference, only put it on yesterday, do they take time to bed in or is my problem elsewhere? The battery hasnt let me down so im assuming the alternator is ok, the car is used mostly for short journeys, so I guess if it was the alternator on its way out it would have let me down by now??

Is it tensioned correctly? I had one car where the pulley was really polished from having been squeaky for years, it was always prone to it until the alternator was changed.

Agree with tensioning, unless properly tensioned it will squeal, just get a hammer/crowbar/wood, anything to lever the alternator against the engine block to tension it whilst you tighten the bolt on the adjuster
