Cool cloud structure!

Very cool

Cumulonimbus (Storm) cloud.

This forms at the trailing edge of a depression (Warm moist Air) as cold air surrounding the depression undercuts the back edge of the warm sector and pushes warm (rising) air above it further upwards.

These form these spectacular "Hammer-head" clouds, which are very high in moisture. The top of the cloud can be at heights up to 70,000 ft ! So it can be freezing at the top. Due to the height of this cloud, itcan produce large hailstones and very heavy localised down pours.

This is the type of cloud that caused the Boscastle flood. With global warming we will be seeing more of these.
