Octavia VRS traction control warning

Hi,

first submission...

My 07 plate Octavia VRS (diesel) has just started displaying the TCS warning light constantly. This appeared one day when starting the car from cold and has stayed on. Trip to the local dealer gave the diagnosis that the ABS unit is faulty: £1,044.00 supplied and fitted....

Now, this caused me more that a little grief as you can imagine. Especially since its almost a month to the day that the warranty expired! Awaiting a response from Skoda as to whether they will provide some goodwill towards it. Especially since I've always defended them and on my third car.

Anyway - does anyone else have any similar experience and what was the outcome?

Lots of reports of this online, it's the Teves Mk60 unit (from memory). I'll find some previous threads on it shortly, but check out the Octavia Mk2 sub-forum specifically for previous threads.

It's a known issue and you should at the very least get a significant contribution towards the costs from SkodaUK.

Edit: quick example: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/caradvice/honestjohn/7844231/Beware-cars-fitted-with-Teves-Mk60-ABSESP-systems-Honest-John.html

Edit again: As an obviously loyal Skoda owner, with a car only just out of warranty(!) I'd fight very hard for them to cover the majority - if not all - of the cost.

Here's a couple more threads on it:

Thanks.

Dealer just of the 'phone to say Skoda have offered 55% which still leaves me the best part of 500 quid.

Set my thesaurus to 'Advanced Complaint' mode and will start my email attack.......

Hi mate , my car was 51 weeks out of warranty when mine went, skoda offered me 50% but i phoned them up and asked for more as i have a full service history and low milage and wasn't happy that a non serviceable part would fail so soon and could they increase the goodwill payment then they settled on 60% so i ended up paying £394 hope that helps.

Adapting some of this boilerplate may help: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/154350-teves-mk60-absesp-fault/

mentioning some choice quotes from the SoGA: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html

Looks like VW are prepared to contribute more than Skoda. Nice.

Hi,

I looked at a MK2 vRS on ebay. The sellers did not mention the ESP light on, but I had already done the research & knew it would cost a bomb.

An althernative is to send off your unit to these guys:

ECU_Testing

bba-reman

No fluid comes out and you can still drive your car. Fault wont happen again, and a lot cheaper then going to VAG!!

Good luck.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just to close off.

After much harranging I decided to accept the 55% goodwill offer. 470 quid. Dealer fitted and VAG guaranteed.

Ready to change car soon so this seriously affects my decision for the future......

Cheers all for input.
