SCOUT TYRE SIZE & MAXIDOT

Featured Replies

I've just ordered my Scout (Corrida Red, MFSW, VBF, Full spare) but suspect delivery will not be until late October or early November. I will therefore be fitting my Winter tyres pretty soon after getting the car. I will probably buy some steel wheels and I already have a virtually new set of Michelin Alpin 205/55/R16s from my current 4x4 estate. These will run approximately 3.8% faster than the standard 225/50/17s on the speedo. I have heard that the MAXIDOT can be set up to correct this slight speed difference. Is this true?

The alternative is a new set of tyres of course. 205/60 would be virtually spot on but still cheaper than 225s.

Yes Maxidot has a option to choose winter tyres on it's setup.

This option is only to set a speed warning notification (bong!) when using winter tyres with a lower speed rating than summer tyres it does not recallibrate the maxidot. Bare in mind that most speedo's have a variation in them anyway in my case my speedo overeads (compared with accurate sat nav speed) by about 3 % on 17" wheels so more like 7% on 16"

Some useful info I posted herelast winter rearding the 16" steels I have on my Scout. HTH

Thanks for that KayakJim. Did you get your stell wheels from Skoda?

I got my steel 16" from Skoda when i ordered the car + 1Z0071435A - FREEDOM plastic covers for 16" steel rims.

Rims cost about 50 pounds each, plastic covers about 60 quid for 4.

If you have a Tom tom (etc) just use the speedo on that.
