0-30W or 0-40W for TSI?

Featured Replies

Hi:

Apologies if this has been asked before but need some top up oil for the wife's new 1.2 TSI (85).

I know this has to meet VW 502.00 standard (its on fixed servicing) but I saw in Halfords today that Castrol Edge which complies with 502.00 can be had in either 0-30W or 5-40W.

Will either do or is one grade preferable to the other?

BTW just realised that the topic text is wrong. Should be 5-40 not 0-40

You can use the higher 504 Spec long life oil even though car is on fixed interval. Mobil #1 "esp" 5W-30 full synthetic long life oil specs 504 & 507 is £32 for 5 liters or about £8 in liter container at ASDA.
