Felly Diesel Tuning

Featured Replies

Thanks for all the advic eon tuning my Felly Diesel.

Plan A so far is to

1. Clean up the intake side of things and remove all surplus gunk and stuff.

2. Purchase a K&N flat air filter. Had one on my old Isuzu engined Astra and it worked well.

3. Blank off EGR valve.

4. Visit my local diesel specialist and get them to set the pump for max performance without loosing MPG.

5. Fit 35mm lower and stiffer springs.

6. Start the search for VW TDI bits and install as and when finances and time allow.

However I do have a plan that I have been reccomanded by a local Mr C Hav.

1. Apply a set of stickers to the front wings that bear no resemblance to the bits i intend to fit. I.E. Sparco, Bilstein Etc.

2.Lower the car by around 4" which will ive it the ability to ground itself on the nearest crisp packet.

3. Fit an ehaust with the bore of the mersey Tunnel.

4. Fit a chromed rear roll cage in case any speed bump tips me over.

5. Spend a fortune on a respray on a vehicle worth £500.

6. Dont tell the insurance company of the modifications which will save me money..

Any advice as to which route to take will be gratefull accepted.

Cheers,

Outlaw :giggle:

Haha...

I'd go for Mr Hav's suggestions! :giggle:

Sounds like a good plan on the first list though. You should see a good improvement... nothing staggering but just a little extra. I reckon you might be pushing 80+hp with those mods. And also probably a cleaner engine with the egr gone... just disconnected the one on the pug.

You will probably also see an improvement in MPG too (although not sure with the fuel pump "tune") but certainly with the EGR gone and the better filter in place.

Think very carefully about a tuned tdi bolted to a felly clutch and box. Not difficult but I wouldn`t do it again. However its been and is fun..

I have seen a video on youtube before of someone with some bolt-on turbo parts from an old golf tdi or similar on the felly derv engine. Think the manifold was custom though.

Only had around 90hp though I think which the standard drive train can easily handle so you should be fine really.

Yes the manifold hits the bonnet, modded an aaz one when the pickup was a turbo`d aef. The clutch didn`t like the torque around 2k revs, although it was with a turned up pump. The tdi version has just wrecked the new comp clutch. The mk3 golf tdi doesn`t seem able to contribute anthing. The mk4 version can be used as an engine/box donor pd/6speed but ££££££s.

I should have gone for option 2.

Poor man!!!

Yep just started on the stickers got a Thor , Dirty Dog, Back Street Hero and a selection of semi porn from KInky Micks Wheel Shack. So can the affectionado`s advise me on location is it the second shelf, the rear window or the doors?

Apparently the Kinky Mick stuff is limited edition.

Obvious place to fit stickers is on the frong wing just in front of door. However you will have to calculate whether this will upset the centre of gravity. I dont want to be responsible for the delicate change in dynamics if these stickers are incorrectly placed.

Top tip.

For added performance source an ESSO tiger tail to fit to the rear view mirror. This apparently used to work extremely effectively in the 70's.

Cheers,

Outlaw.

N.B.

Stop Press.

When carrying out the above mentioned tuning tips it is essential to wear a Hoodie pulled well over the eyes and also to lower and push back the drivers seat so that you cant see over the steering wheel and cant reach the said wheel.

If placing stickers on the front wings is likely to upset the weight distribution, you can place them on the leading edge of the front doors, on the sills, or on the leading edge of the rear wing (3-door cars only).
