Storage Tray

Featured Replies

You know the little hinged "push to open, push to close" storage tray that sits just in front of the hinged arm rest and just on the drivers side of the handbrake lever ... the one that's really useful for putting sweet wrappers in? Well the dearly beloved was doing her normal trick of trying to get too much rubbish into a bin without emptying it, and now the thing won't close. It will push into the space, but refuses to lock shut and has lost the "smooth damped" action that it used to have, so something has come adrift in there.

Have been trying to get it out without breaking it for the last half hour or so to have a look, but am failing dismally. Anyone know how to get in the back of there to see what's happened?

Thanks.

Another 'Jenga Bin' player! We play that at work, great fun!

Sorry can't help with how to fix it though.

Hi! I have some experience with that room:P The remote-control for my diesel-heater fits perfect in that room if you put it in the right way, and so did the remote-control for the stereo I thought. Fail! The room got jammed like hell, and I could neither open it or close it....

The solution was trying to pull up the room right under the arm rest right up. The room is attached with a set of barbs or wickers (I dont know the actual technical term:P) so if you try to pull it right up you might get it loose, worked fine to me and didn't get the feeling that I broke it:P

If you get that room up you get a better view of the little room, so maybe that can help you out.. At least it worked for me, was just to pull up the remote from the inside:P

Good luck

It has a sleeve tray, you should be able to pull it out and empty it, and simply slot it back in, I suspect you don't have it fully slotted back in.

No, it's not the sleeve tray, that comes out easily and is now empty. It's the "sleeve tray carrier" .... it's hinged at the bottom, rotates out and rotates back in in the same way as the two ash trays do. Press once and it opens, push back in and it locks ... at least that's the way it used to work. Now it stays open all the time and refuses to stay in unless I jam a cable tie in the side to provide some friction. I did find a perculiar looking small black plastic wheel that has a three legged interior when I was vacuuming out the car, so that may be part of it. It's knowing how far to push things without breaking the bits that's the problem and and the workshop manual doesn't go into that level of depth.

Thanks to all.
