Removed the underguard

Featured Replies

Hi, removed the underguard at the bottom of the engine as it was trailing and making a horrible scratching noise (nah not related to my other thread..) its supposed to be there to protect the engine from dirt or objects isnt it, is it really vital to get a replacement... My Audi A3 went without one for 10,000 miles nothing ever went wrong with it.

What you lot reckon.

Did you have the full size under engine cover ???

As most rs's only have a partial one at the front behind the bumper

Pretty sure its partial. just about 1 metre long roughly and 30cm wide. I cut a bit by the side parts of the underguard near the tyre, the rest of the underguard near the tyres is still there.

Yep that sounds right, I think it's more about the air con bits on the rs, the full cover is on the derv models for noise damping.

You can get another cover for about £20 iirc.

Not sure if leavingit off is a good/bad idea

One of the local members to me has had his car for over a year now and it's never had one of those covers. He hasn't had any issues despite it being lowered etc. The only thing that would bother me about not having one on mine is as Fatty said it's protecting the pipework for the air conditioning.
