removing the gear knob

Featured Replies

thought i'd ask in fabia I section as i know some of you have done this and the fabia II's gear stick might be similar mark 1.

how do i remove the gearknob and gaiter and fit new one in place? thanks

We swapped the gearknob on our last Furby. If I remember right you need to pull the gear lever gaitor up from the centre console and pull it above the gear knob. You'll see the knob is held on by a crimped on clip - you can force this open with a flat blade screwdriver and then the knob just pulls off.

thanks for a quick reply. i didn't expect someone to reply so quick.

i have ordered a new gear knob and gaiter from a skoda dealer so hopefully will fit.

Is the gearknob and gaiter one thing or seprate? i.e. the gaiter is glued/attached to the gear knob

on the mk1 the gear knob and gaitor come in one piece

thanks for the reply. i''ll have a go at removing the gearknob and hope i can put the new one on.

If you break the old clip holding it, just use a jubilee type hose clip.

Good idea, or alternatively use tie wraps pulled tight and trim the end
