Where is your mic?

The mic is installed just to the drivers side of the rear view mirror. Have not moved this since buying the car with it installed.

My colleague had exactly the same setup in his recently replaced Octavia, and exactly the same problem. I don't think it is the position of the mic so much as a weakness of the CK-7W. I had exactly the same problem with that kit and a Windows Mobile in a Passat I had a few years ago.

Factory-fit bluetooth wasn't an option in my colleagues new Octavia vRS and a Bury car kit was recommended over a Parrot by the company he used for fitting. I believe iit is an updated version of the following with iPod connectivity:

http://www.bury.com/cws/uk/hands-free-car-kits/system-bt-bluetooth-systems/cc-9060/cc-9060.html

Calls are now free of echo and the phone book from the Desire synced over via Bluetooth automatically. The touchscreen functionality looks quite smart and it does voice dialling without any training. The Bury kit must be ok as I know VW have rebadged it and offer it as a dealer-fit accessory.

Best regards

David

Thanks, thought it would be too good that swapping phones would be so easy .

I'll have a look at the Bury system, but was hoping not to have to start modifying things !

I have a ck-7w, and a desire, and had to move the mic due to echo on my N96, Desire and SWMBO's Samsung.

Moving the mic resolved the echo.

Are you running the kit through the car's speakers? If so you've be better moving it off centre, to the drivers A pillar should be better.

Ah, a cost effective solution if it works......like this !. Think I've got a spare mic somewhere so will plug in and try again !

Interesting, the mic was positioned in the same place in both my colleagues cars. I guess it is a combination of the CK-7W and mic position rather than one or the other.

Even with the Bury kit if you listen carefully during the very first few seconds of the call you can hear a faint echo which then disappears. This is the car-kit performing echo training as part of it's echo cancelling functionality. The CK-7W has been around a good few years and probably isn't as capable at echo cancelling. You get much the same phenomena with PSTN interfaces and handsets in VoIP telephony.

It would certainly be worth trying to reposition the mic rather than splashing out on new kit. Positioning the mic on the drivers A pillar isn't so good for your passenger making a call, but I suppose you can't have everything. :)

Ours is the standard Nokia mic, and anyone in the car can still be clearly understood by the other person on the phone without need to shout - unless the window's open of course.

Found a spare mic so will try tomorrow and post results.

Had nokia kit in my last 3 Passats and all had the mike on the A pillar.

I'm quite sure the mic from the CK-7W in my Passat was positioned in the centre near the interior map lights. I know my colleagues Octavia was the same. A reposition could be the key.

Hmmm.....tried another mic, held all around the interior, to no avail, so unless anyone's got any ideas, I'll have to splash out ?

How high is the speaker volume? How is the kit set to connect to the speakers? Autoleads cable or vw connection?

Speaker volume is no more than I had previously, but will swap sim to old phone and re-test.

Not sure what leads are fitted as it was already installed when car was bought......although I did have to swap CK7W box as that fitted didn't have bluetooth.

Fortunately the leads fitted had dual connectors, one for each type of box, so didn't have to mess with wiring much.

Does the radio say phone when on a call? Do you get phone sound from all speakers or just the drivers door?

Does the radio say phone when on a call? Do you get phone sound from all speakers or just the drivers door?

Thanks for persevering with me !!!

Sound comes only from drivers door speaker.

Echo only happens at phone I'm talking to, and only when we both speak. If I speak it's ok and if other end only speaks its ok.

Turned phone volume control down to minimum and this helps, although seems to have no effect on the volume from the car speaker.

If I turn speaker volume down using nokia volume control ( around pairing button), then echo diminishes.

When echo disappears volume is very low so wouldn't be able to hear conversation when engine runs !

I note radio shows Telephone, but radio volume control has no effect on volume.

Radio fited to car is a Nexus with sat nav if this helps !

Just thought......... this is all without engine running so when in car not speaking there's no background noise.

Any suggestions welcome !!
