New vRS, Cruise Not Working, Help needed

Featured Replies

Picked up my new car last night, on the way home tried to set the cruise and nothing happens, no lights come on (not sure if they should or not) as my old one didn't have cruise

Basically whats the easiest way to tell if its just had the stalk fitted or its just malfunctioning? (what to the brake and clutch switches look like)

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Check if your brake lights are out, if the brake light switch has failed (little thing on top of the brake pedal) it will kill the cruise control too.

No lights will come on when you set cruise, just push the button on the end to set it and slide the slide on the front of the stalk one way to increase the speed and the other way to turn cruise off completely.

If the brake lights are ok then it could be a problem with the cruise stalk itself

Brakelights definately ok, starting to wonder now if its just the stalk thats been fitted and nothing else.....

Do you have vagcom?

Do you have vagcom?

No unfortunately not, wouldn't really know how to use it, never tried TBH lol

Doesn't the brake switch have two channels - one to brake lights and the other to the ECU for cruise control? So could be a loose connection to that channel.

IIRC throttle position sensor also kills cruise if it's not working.

Have a look at the member map in the Diagnostics section to see if there's a member with VAGCOM or VCDS near you.

Cheers,

Martin

If when driving, instead of pressing the SET button, try holding the RES button for about 3 seconds. If it works then, it means there is a fault on the RED set wire from the stalk to the ECU. Mine did this, and it turned out the red wire was connected to the wrong pin on the ecu lol

clutch pedal switch faulty will also stop it working

Right I'll try the RES method on the way to work tomorrow.

Its booked in at a local tuning place (Monster Motorsport) on thursday for a VAGCOM scan and dyno run, would they be able to pick anything up from this with regard to brake/clutch switches or TPS? (the VAGCOM scan obviously lol)

They should be able to test them all. If they go into channel 1 (engine), then go into measuring blocks, there is a section for the cruise control. It will display a value like 000001. As you press different switches on the stalk, some 0's will turn to 1's ect etc. I think that the brake and clutch pedals will change some digits too.
