In praise of the "Variable Loading Floor"

Featured Replies

When I bought Betty, I was talked into including the false boot floor to my list of extras. This was added as I often have to carry bags of fuel in the boot and the raised floor is so much easier to load and unload. It reduces the boot size by about 5" and the boot is already a bit on the tight side.

But, under this "floor" is a void that has proved very useful. In this void I keep:-

One small ground sheet

One waterproof picnic mat

One 12V vacuum cleaner and tools(Lidl)

One set of tie downs and bungee cords to constrain heavy items in the boot.

A pile of plastic shopping bags (for the shops that charge for bags)

A cool bag

A box with a damp cloth and a kitchen sponge (to remove dried on flies from screen and lights)

One bottle of oil and touch up paint.

Two inflatable cushions

There is still room for the temporary storage of valuables.

As the lid of the false floor is covered by a "car boot mat" (£3.99 from Lidl), it looks like a solid floor to the casual glance and the boot itself looks empty.

I have included this post for anyone considering the false floor as an extra.

Thanks for the info Terfyn.

We too have gone for the variable boot floor so are pleased with your findings

thanks Terfyn for an excellent review.

For those looking to purchase a Monster best point out that unfortunately the variable floor and the spare wheel kit are not compatible i.e. you can have one but not the other as they both fit in the same space. There was a lot of confusion over this in the early days due to the terminology used by Skoda.

TP

My Yeti came with the variable floor from factory but as I wanted the spare wheel (which the salesman co*ked up the order(on his side) and only charged me £100 instead of £200+)

So I have a box of bits for the spare wheel floor and the variable actually in the yeti.

When I get chance I might swap them around.

Going for the spare wheel gives you a sill level floor loading option for a lot less money :-)

AND a near flat floor when you tip the seats forward.

You are right about the price. When I ordered my SM the price of the "floor" was £80. It is now £140 a 75% increase. Where do they get this increase from? Is it spring loaded or something?
