Bush confusion

Featured Replies

I have the console/wishbone bush problem and had the car on the ramp tonight. The wishbone is fairly obvious, as is the bush. When folk on here are referring to console bushes, is this the same as the wishbone bush?

Can anyone supply a picture of these bushes on a car to keep me right?

Many thanks.

Yes consol bushes are the wishbone bushes - normally replaced by ibiza cupra bushes.

There are two bushes on each front wishbone. The consol bush is at the back of the wishbone and a smaller bush is at the front.

Ah ok. I didn't remove the cover under the car tonight, just had a quick look. Does the cover need to be removed to see the other bush?

Deano, nice one mate!!

I'm guessing the other bush is at the 12 o'clock position of the picture as I look at it?

Is it just the smaller of the 2 the most people replace for the cupra bushes?

NO - the CUPRA (consol) bush is inside the alloy housing at the bottom of the picture - this is what most people replace.

The small bush at the top of the pic near the bolt is not normally a problem

Have a look at this fitting guide - http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/92625-fabia-wishbone-bush-replacement-diy-guide/

Thanks again deano mate.

The cupra bushes are the big ones and the powerflex bushes are the smaller ones. Makes so much more sense now.

Do all the bolts need replaced at the same time or is that a personal choice?

Now to find powerflex bushes and phone my local Seat garage!!

Get the powerflex bushes and the cupra bushes from awesome gti in manchester - they have both in.

If you are removing the consols to do the job then yes you should replace the bolts - they are stretch bolts.

Don't forget to have the tracking done afterwards.

They arent stretch bolts. They are replaced as there is a green coating on the bolts, this is an anti corrosion agent as its a steel bolt going through an aluminium housing.

I will take your word for that.

I thought the coating on the threads was threadlock to stop them vibrating loose.

If they are not stretch bolts - how come the tightening figures for them are low seating torque + angular rotation rather than a straight torque setting ?

Angular rotation tightening following a light torque setting is designed to take a bolt to its optimum tension for maximum clamping force.

The angle of rotation is calculated to stretch the bolt slightly to achieve clamp load.
