durable (NOT) show paintwork / wheel products

Featured Replies

Hi all,

have read the guides (crikey ! never realised there was so much science technique in it) and am after a bit of advise as am even more confused. I'm more a Halfords type person than a Swissvax type (saw the prices and almost fainted!)

What I'm after is durability and protection, not a perfect showroom /show shine on my (lovely) L&K Octy Mk1

After opinions on the various PTFE / Mer style products out there - which ones work well as want to protect the finish on my cars paint and wheels through the winter without constant re-washing / polishing etc

No disrespect to all who what to have their cars at show level gloss / finish - but haven''t the time or desire to do so - just not my thing

Any recommendations etc appreciated - shroud I go the PTFE route or Mer (my fave from what I've read so far)

Collinite 476 wax applied over some Auto Glym EGP

Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection lasts a long time and isn't overly expensive, although it does take about 2hrs to dry ...

Autoglym also make an alloy wheel sealer spray, although I have no idea about longevity. People on here seem to like Chemical Guys Jetseal for the wheels, although, again, I have no experience of it (having steel wheels ;)).

2 hours to dry! Its fine once its gone hazy tbh - 30min max.

Use the collinite on the wheels too! Done nearly 6k on mine and still look like new.

Thanks chaps -keep the ideas coming - am looking up info on Autoglym at present and Collinite Thanks !

I bought a couple of different products recently in waiting for my new Octy vRS. I got over anxious and tried it on my sons red Civic.

Dead easy to use and looks good.

Not sure about longevity yet but by far the easiest product to use yet.

Step 1.

Chemical Guys P40 .. >> THIS STUFF << Apply with applicator.

Wipe off with Microfibre cloth

Really cleaned the paint in preparation for step 2.

Step 2

Chemical Guys Blitz. >>This Stuff <<

Acrylic Sealant

Wipe on.

Leave to haze wipe off.

Looks great.

All in all you would have the car done in under an hour.
